Just curious about something -

What was the name of the song that sounded like it was out of the Conan the Barbarian soundtrack? It was the bombastic/warrior march sounding song that the band played at numerous times throughout the game.
wasn't that the start of the theme from Phantom of the Opera? when the Phantom would appear? that's my guess from the radio feed . they played when the defense was on the field?

Yeah, it was from "Phantom of the Opera", which I personally like, but for some reason I don't think of football (let alone Alabama football) when I hear music from a Broadway show.

Sorry. I was so thrilled to hear the band play Tusk, I was sure that was what you were hearing.
The way the OP describes the song makes me think he is describing Tusk also, which was played by the MDB both in pregame and in the stands. The Phantom of the Opera cheer is the 3rd down defense cheer this year.

It was Tusk by Fleetwood Mac. They did a great job with it. I also like Basket Case they play at the end of the third quarter. I will say however the Motown tribute at halftime {that was really just a Michael Jackson tribute} I did not care for.

The show was picked out last spring. Michael Jackson just happened to die over the summer.

They played both. The theme from the Phantom of the Opera was played after certain defensive plays, I think they alternated between that and Keeper of the House from Les Mes. They played Tusk when Big Al was on the field dancing but I heard Phantom mostly during the game although Tusk could have been played also.

Tusk is a natural for us. Should play it more. I've always loved that song... it's a great riff and sounds terrific with brass in the stadium.

I can vouch for the Motown show being picked before Michael Jackson died (however, the "comeback" tour must have played some influence on the selection, so in a different way it was a tribute to Jackson anyway).

Well, it would've been nice if the music video had featured the MDB instead of the USC Trojan Marching Band.

I was wondering what it was too. I was sitting right next to the band, and the vibrations made it that much more awesome.

Anyways, it was driving me crazy, so thanks very much for answering diamondust's question!
