I read somewhere that we are in good shape with Morgan Moses a five star offensive tackle prospect out of VA. I do not see any recent information on this prospect here and I do not really take anything seriously unless I get information from those who are in the know here. I would appreciate it if anyone has any information on our chances with this guy. Are our chances legit or was this just another rumor. Thanks in advance.

We are legitimately on Moses' radar screen at this point, and he looks like he might take an official visit to Alabama, but I wouldn't get my hopes up. We have a chance, to be sure, but it would really take a lot to get him. Look for him to stay in-state and sign with either Virginia or Virginia Tech.

Now Massie, though, is another story... We are in great shape with him, and if I had to wager, I would probably say that we are his most likely destination.

I never knew that we were in good shape with Morgan Moses. :) As BET pointed out, Alabama is on his radar screen, but in my opinion that's about it. I would be very, very surprised if he were to sign with Alabama.

Dug this up, this morning,

"With Alabama they want me to visit after their season is over so they have this weekend and then the SEC Championship Game so I probably won't be able to visit there until January."

"I like the coaches at Alabama, they want me to redshirt and come in and be like Andre Smith. Other schools don't think I need to redshirt and I'd prefer to play as a freshman, but I'll make my choice based on many different things."

I don't know what to think of either of these statements. I wonder why our coaches want to wait 'til post-season for a visit? And I also wonder why they'd want to red-shirt a 6'7 O-Lineman when we're about to lose the best one we've got?

99% of the time a redshirt year is best for the player when your talking about an offensive lineman. They can usually run block fine but their footwork is usually sub par for SEC pass blocking. I'll be ecstatic if we sign either Moses or Massey to go along with the others we have signed, if we signed both I'd go ahead and start ragging Barners for the 2010,11, & 12 seasons just to get a head start.

Coach Saban has said several times in various press conferences that he prefers players to officially visit after the season so that he may spend more one on one time with them instead of having to prepare for a game. Also most O-Linemen aren't ready to play at this level of competition as freshmen, and they generally benefit by having a year in a S&C program. Andre Smith is a rare exception.

Regardless, we aren't currently deep enough at OT with legit talent to really make favoring a redshirt year for a player like Moses most pragmatic... unless there are others the staff feels more confident about.

I have to admit I was scratching my head when I read the article with Moses being quoted as saying that Bama wants to redshirt him. First off I agree Bama does not seem deep enough on the line to automatically redshirt the best or one of the best offensive tackles in the country. Two of the three OTs from the 2008 signing class have been wearing a black shirt for most of this season. One of the two current starting tackles is likely to leave for the NFL and the other is doing pretty good but there is definitely room for improvement. Second even if that is your plan to redshirt Moses, why tell him that when he says that he wants to play early? This has to mean that Bama likes Fluker, Massie, and even James Carpenter better since there has been no mention from them about a plan to redshirt them if they came to Bama. Maybe it was some sort of misunderstanding that needs to be cleared up. Maybe the coaches told him that they like to reshirt offensive linemen their freshman year or something?

That hits on another thing that hit me oddly about his comments: the staff seems to regurgitate the "years don't matter; being the better player matters" policy in regards to playing time with remarkable consistency to recruits, so to break that policy for one of the nation's elite smacks oddly. Unless, as you suggested, those other 3 are favored and are matters of confidence.

Safer bet is seems to be on misundertsanding or mistatement.

Maybe AS has told the coaches that he's coming back for his senior year. If that is the case then the LT position will be taken and Moses would have to RS or beat out AS for the position. Just a thought!!!

I am hoping against hope that Andre Smith comes back for his senior year but come on guys and gals, who on this board would turn down being one of the top picks in the NFL draft. He can always come back and get his degree after his NFL playing days are over. It is a no-brainer. He will go for the ultimate football job and take care of himself and his family finacially. Let's just enjoy him while we have him and watch CNS get after reloading the OL in this class. ;)

Maybe CNS is just being honest with Moses!!!

That's how I see it. The coaches told Moses that it would be best for him to take his official after the season is over, and since we are in the SEC Championship game, it will most likely be in the January. It's better though because the coaches have more time to pitch our program to the young man. I doubt we will land him, but the fact the we are getting a visit definitely helps our chances.

Obviously, that is the case if that is indeed turn out to be Bama's plan for Moses? The point that myself and some others are tyring to make is even if redshirting is the plan for whatever reason, why not offer him the chance to compete for playing time? Especially, since Moses himself has said that he wants to play early.

I would think that the highest ranked OT in the country by some and certainly one of the best OTs in the country should have the talent to be able to compete for the job his freshman year. Obviously, if he makes second team then you would not play him unless you had to and he could still be redshirted.

Believe me I am not criticizing CNS and staff on their recruiting efforts or stategy. I don't know enough about the Moses situation to do that. I am just thinking out loud and discussing Bama recruiting. ;)

That's the only thing I can figure. "Redshirt a year and then come in to be like Andre Smith"??

Who know's but it seems to me there must have been a conversation like.."learn the position and develop behind Andre for a year.....then be ready to step in and take his place".

Like you I certainly hope so.
