Another name in the hopper to replace Muschamp -
Florida: Sources tell us that Marshall head coach Doc Holliday is very much a candidate for the head coaching vacancy at Florida. Holliday has served as head coach at Marshall for the past five seasons. From 2005-2007 he was on Urban Meyer’s staff at Florida serving as associate head coach and recruiting coordinator. Holliday went on to join the staff at West Virginia where he served two years as associate head coach before being named head coach at Marshall following the 2009 season. Holliday won 10 games at Marshall last season and currently has his team 10-0.

They could (and have) do worse.

Have a hard time seeing this because, (1) as I said a few pages back, this would be a really underwhelming hire, and (2) if the UF assistant ties during the Meyer era are enough to bar Mullen as a candidate, why wouldn't it also serve as a bar to another head coach who has accomplished far less? I just cannot see this one happening.

I don't know the details on the Mullen-Foley situation, but I gather it really doesn't have anything to do with the fact that Mullen was an assistant under UM. It seems like it's something more specific than Mullen just being a member of that group. Like a specific incident or maybe something personal between those two guys.

Look for Doc Holliday to emerge one of the candidate next month... I think he's the one most likely to get the job because of his ties to the area, and the ability to recuit in Florida.

Holliday isn't bad, but it certainly doesn't scare me. He took over a Marshall team that had gone 19-30 in its prior 4 seasons, and he went 27-24 in the next 4 seasons. He's had a good year this year, but I'd definitely want to see more than one good year before asking him to take over such a huge program.

It's about like Brady Hoke - a bunch of mediocre seasons, then one huge 12 win season, and he becomes a "hot coach."

I think you are right, but was Urban Meyer considered a home run hire when he replaced Zook? IIRC Meyer was at Utah when Machen was Utah's President and that probably influenced Foley.

Meyer was the top prize in the country that year, and Foley pounced before Notre Dame, which, in its characteristic humility, assumed it had Meyer sewed up, mounted an offer.

Yep - Meyer was the hottest up and coming coach that year. ND fans in the area were beside themselves when he picked FL knowing that ND was going to make him an offer. It was delicious, and became more so as ND continued to struggle while FL won championships under Meyer.

I think when Mullen interviewed for the position when it was open a few years ago, he came in with a fairly arrogant attitude. I think he left a less than favorable impression with Jeremy Foley from what I understand.

Hearing UF has offered Ole Miss HC Hugh Freeze their coaching job

Source in Oxford confirms, that Ole Miss head coach Hugh Freeze has been offered the Florida job.

Don't think this has any legs to it, but keep eyes on this.. it depends on the game this weekend.
Hugh Freeze is using this just like a lot of other coaches will: to get a raise. Same thing Saban did with the Texas opening. It's part of the business..

According to my source that I just made up, Hugh Freeze said the only way he will leave Ole Miss is in a pine box.

More to come as I make it up...

It may not be accurate, but it wouldn't surprise me. It would help explain their lack of focus the last few weeks. It reminds me of us losing to Auburn when Fran took off to College Station. We were not ready to play that game, and that is the only reason I was angry at Franny. I never care if a coach decides to leave, but he should have taken care of his current job before leaving for what he thought was a greener pasture.

I agree, Rich Rod is a proven HC, not a Michigan man, but successful at both WVU and Zona. His brand of offense would be a change of pace for UF and IMO really help recruiting in state. He is more likely to jump ship rather than Stoops.
Rich Rod has a great gig in Tucson . The Latino community loves him and there is plenty of stuff to do, unlike Gainesville. He has NO Pressure !
