New coach search...

Too many flip flops the last 24 hours... I'll be shocked to see Marshall to sign with Alabama by lunch time tomorrow.

For the record, the only things that have really been at issue since the start of this thread would be the Texas opening and Forde citing "sources". There's been no flip flop as far as we're aware.

Good news: we aren't after anyone else. That makes me think that the worst case scenario for right now is that Marshall is still thinking about it. If Marshall had told us no, we would be moving on. It sounds like we are trying to agree to terms.
I'm honestly not sure there is any bad news right now. Texas pursuing Smart seems to indicate Marshall is either staying put or coming to Bama.

For those of you who do not live in Texas, read above quote. Especially the last half.
The beauty of it is that Alabama desperately needs someone that doesn't need oversight, that knows what he's doing. Marshall built something where he's at, a program that can compete with basketball powers, and not only did he do that at a mid-major, he did it at a baseball school. I wonder how many people even realize that now with what he's done, but that was a school only known for what they did in baseball, so why not come do the same for a football school next?

You guys are firing me up! It just feels like something is about to happen. I guess a good sleep here on the west coast and it's possible to wake up to some good news. Said it 3 days ago, no means no except in coaching searches during the season. Still haven't heard a no, from anyone.

Kinda glad to see this, that is a makes sense hire, no?

Who knows ? I don't think he's coached before. He was a very good and interesting player but coaching is a completely different skill set; also very different from GM. It's been proven a thousand times. One's playing abilities, even playing smarts, coaching parents, who one has played and coached under, all mean NOTHING when it comes to whether a guy can perform as a head coach.

I woulda bet money he was head coach of Golden State at some point, but you're right, wasn't. I still think it's not a bad move for them. This is exactly the kinda "chance" hire I'm talking about by mentioning Keith Askins name, when you dont get the coach you want instead of just settling with anyone.

I spoke w a knowledgeable source yesterday who said Gregg Marshall was "shocked" to read reports that he has zero interest in Alabama.

I'm of the opinion that some (some) in the media who have a hate on for Bama because of its recent fball success. They revel in the chance for Bama to fall on its face any chance they get. Maybe it's just an overreaction by me but it's just a sense I get from time to time when I see a story like Forde posted.

This. With astronomically more available resources, television exposure pre tournament, and an administration who has shown they are willing to, ahem, let the elephants run with the right one in charge.

Honestly, is coming in second to Kentucky in basketball every year such a bad thing? Especially if every now and then you reach up and beat them. Hoping this meeting goes well today.

I wonder if that's how CBB will put it to Marshall? 'look dude, we will pay you four MILLION freakin' dollars to come here and all we want is for you to finish second in the league'? :)

I think that most people would be interested in a job like that.

Forde's report reeks of someone with UT allegiance trying to do something.

Rick Barnes needs a job. He coached as an assistant in Bama in 85 86. Looks like he did a pretty good job at UT.

Have you read any of this thread? Rick Barnes isn't coming to Alabama.

I know there is a lot of Rick Barnes hate on here but he would be a tremendous upgrade over what we had. If he were hired he would come in re-energized with something to prove. We know he can get NBA talent that alone would put butts in the seats. I think to win in the SEC you will need talent and coaching. It will be interesting to see if Greg Marshall can get some NBA players on his roster if he makes the jump. With his name being blown up on media outlets maybe it will be what he needs to get him in the door on some of those 5 star kids. One thing Rick Barnes can tell kids and parents I have a track record of coaching up kids for the NBA.
