Check this excerpt out in the Dothan Eagle Newspaper..."Four seniors lead the team — including two-time all-state honoree Nico Johnson, the team’s leading scorer and rebounder. Johnson, an Alabama football commitment, averages around 20 points a game. Last week, the 6-foot-3 forward-center had 34 points, 15 rebounds and seven steals in a win over Enterprise."

I live in Andalusia and have been able to watch Nico play both basketball and football this year. He is a great LB and good basketball player. His basketball numbers are inflated by the system that is run by his coach. Don't get me wrong, he has a great coach (coached Robert Horry in High School), who wins alot of games and is actually in the Alabama Hall of Fame. Their offense is one that is very disiplined and will continue to pass the ball around until they can get it down low to Nico who plays the 4 and 5 slots. They take very few shots outside of 8 to 10 feet. This is why Nico can put up such big numbers in basketball. It works for his team and they win (undefeated on the season). Nico's future is in football most definatly!

Coach Robertson still coaches there?! I lived there 15 years ago and remember him being old back then.

Maybe his vertical is between 38" and 41". That will be a huge pulse for Alabama Football. :BigA:

Very versatile individual. That is good to know.

Re: Tide Commit Nico Johnson good at BBall

Too often we hear of the negatives of college athletes. It is good to hear the positive stories which reflect the majority of players. I think he will do very well for Coach Saban.

So glad that this young man will be in Crimson next year. He will likely be a contributor next year and has a great chance to be a star at Alabama before he leaves.

But still, the system doesn't help him in the rebounds and steals departments, 15 rebounds is dang impressive for a guy only 6'3 and 7 steals says a lot about his instincts. Best thing is, all that athleticism will be channeled to the football field in T-Town.
