And you can turn in your Spectrum TV equipment and "cut the cable". But if you get internet from them, they'll soon raise those rates because they have better and more stable internet service than most local networks and arguably satellites. At least that's the case in my area. They'll get theirs. Then Disney will buy out YouTube TV, etc, etc.

YTTV is owned by Google (or whatever their name is now).

A more realistic scenario might be them buying Disney. :)

I haven't read the entire thread , but felt compelled to express my view from the inside as I was actually employed as an assistant manager with one of the larger cable companies back in 2013-2014 .

1 - The real issue here is panic and greed from the Disney side of the equation . Keep in mind that Disney is currently down around 160 billion dollars .
2 - Disney wants cable providers to force their customers into paying for larger packages , which some would label as expanding their efforts of further indoctrinating our society , with no lesser or more affordable options for the consumer . This applies to both cable and streaming .
3 - So , the Disney stance is rather simplistic - They do not care at all about what you want . Nor do they care about what the average consumer can or cannot afford . What does Disney care about ? Using cable providers to help Disney erase some of their 160 billion in losses .

On the cable side .....
1 - The cable providers really are on the side of the consumer . If they cannot satisfy and maintain their customer base , obviously , they go under . Also , it actually takes decades for cable companies to even sniff a profit . Every single cable office in the U.S. is sitting on at least 3m worth of inventory - every single location . Every advancement in technology puts them further in the hole in order to keep up and continue to provide a quality product for their customers .
2- Charter companies , including Spectrum , are in more than 41m homes which means more than 100+m total outlets . These numbers have a direct impact on the rates which companies such as Disney charge for advertisers .
3 - While the cable companies are clearly the "middle man " in the equation , it's also clear that they are the only thing standing between the consumer and some eventual form of "We don't care what you want . You'll pay more for this and like it . " type of programming .

I think you found a rogue account that's uploading from a paid service provider. I'm surprised YTTV didn't shut it off.
Youtube's algorithim presented me with the games. Then gave me access to the 15 min highliights of each game. Not YTTV, i dont pay for that service so i don't get it.

I cut the cable with Dishnetwork in Dec. when they couldnt justify why I was paying them 99.00 bucks for locals, espn and some other block of channels my wife wanted. I spent and hour with them finally said ""::?&** IT to the rep she laughed and said thats more the norm. I have a streaming device like a firestick and one device a Nvidia Shield ( it allows me to plug in and external hard drive and with scheduling program, I have my own DVR. All legal since I am recording for private use. It took me a couple of days to teach the wife but we have saved 60x9 =$540.00 that i didn't send to DISHNETWORK. Yes I do pay for streaming services but I can pic and choose. You just have to know where to look there are some bundled deals out there. AMF to Disney. I will not miss hold the customer hostage till are willing to pay for the rate increase. The cable providers are as much to blame because they play good cop bad cop , its the Disney thugs the cut your game off but we had nothing to do with it say the cable providers, but when the rates go up you know Spectrum et al will get their cut. RTR chew up those ugly Bovines.

I know many people don't like AT&T as a company but, if your neighborhood has, or gets, AT&T Fiber, I highly recommend the service. We have been in our new house for 2 1/2 years now and the service has been fantastic. Hardly any outages and the few that have happened were brief.

The biggest outage was earlier this year when WOW! cut the fiber line feeding our street. That took AT&T 2 1/2 days to fix but it wasn't their fault. I talked to the repair guys and they said it was the 3rd line WOW! had cut in our neighborhood that month, plus 1 water main. He said WOW is the worst at just digging wherever and not caring.

Anyway, if you have access to AT&T Fiber, I highly recommend giving it a look. It has been far better than any cable internet service we have had in the past. We pay $80 for the 1GB service here in Montgomery (and the government ACP program knocks another $30 off so we only really pay $50).

Good post.

I've had Spectrum cable since buying my home back in '96. Overall it's been good but there have been various stumbles along the way and now this fiasco.

ATT put their fiber optic lines in 2 years ago and last year it was Wire3's turn. So I have both of those options available. Wire3 has a line right at the pole that runs my cable in, in fact.

Yesterday, I was over at my Mom's house and the Wire3 installers were busy running lines throughout her neighborhood.

In our local social media platform Nextdoor I've seen nothing but positive comments from those who switched over to Wire3. Nothing at all from ATT but I'm sure they also have happy customers....it's just that Wire3 is the new kid in town.

$60/month for 10 gigs.

Lastly....we've lost cable plenty of times during hurricane season. Would be nice not to have that issue any more.

I am currently getting the games via youtube TV but it's probably just a matter of time before they end up being forced to charge too much. I've already cut the cord multiple times due to cost, that included not having access in my home to Alabama football. I love Alabama football but I will NOT pay exorbitant money to watch them play. I'll listen on the radio, I'll catch a ticket every now and then, I'll go to the local wild wings. the suits can be greedy all they want but I'm afraid sports are WAY down the priority list. below things like, "take wife to art festival because it makes her happy".

All negotiations come to an end at some point. And it can only end in one of two ways. A settlement or an impasse. All signs are pointing to the end result in this case being an impasse. If there was a real, viable solution on the table, then it would have been all taken care of by now. Disney THOUGHT that by yanking the plug right before kickoff of game one on the Thursday night just before Labor Day weekend, that would apply the necessary pressure to make Spectrum agree to something, anything. It absolutely did not. "You don't mess with football season in the south". Well, apparently, even football season in the south wasn't big enough to make any sort of difference. Bottom line, this thing is over, finished, stick a big old fork in it, goodbye. If I wagered, my money would be on this ending in an impasse and it would be the easiest money I ever made

I know what you mean. As big a Bama fan as I am, even I am questioning just how much I am willing to pay just to see the Tide. Disney and Spectrum don't have any control over radio (at least not yet) so, I'll just be catching them on the airwaves if this insanity keeps up. Services like YouTube TV, Sling, Hulu, Fubo, Dish, Direct TV, Amazon Prime, etc, ALL have a day like this coming for them too. Spectrum is just the one locked in the battle right now, but this will pass, one way or the other. And then Disney will just move on to one of the others. And it will be the same "Disney wants (insert name of streaming service here) to pay abc. But WE care about the consumer so we're fightin for ya" And in the meantime, off comes the ESPN family of networks for whatever service is up next for Disney to lock horns with

Taking sides in this ignores the simple fact that both of these companies are acting in their own self interest with no regard to their consumers. This is all about the money for BOTH companies. Consumers are not even part of the internal discussions except with respect the $$$.

that's so fast you'll be in the future. :D

Key is making sure you have a capable wifi to take advantage. For example, I'm at 5gbps fiber when using ethernet but about 10% of that using wifi 6e. speed decreases rapidly every few feet and through walls/floors/ceilings. I have 3 extenders so I'm getting nearly 400mbps via wifi on other side of house through 3 walls and up steps with lots of electronics in between. It's plenty :)

platform and content are both a commodity product (for all practical purposes) so it has to be about money. Problem is that both companies have long histories of jacking up prices with no consequences and making very arrogant statements (about programming, content decisions, hiring/firing decisions, etc) to boot. Now the cat is coming for the mouse. Could Disney end up being the PAC12/16 of networks ?

I'm ready to get this Spectrum/ Disney thing resolved. I am a long time spectrum customer. We watched some games on youtube this past weekend. Very low quality.
Yes! I caught some games (Bama/MTSU included) on YouTube and to say it wasn't the same would be a HUGE understatement. This ridiculous fight has drug on for a week now. I am just ready for some kind of resolution.

This thing has gotten so out of hand that even Spectrum is sending their customers to competitors. As in ENCOURAGING them to go. I don't even know what to say at this point

Dont expect one anytime soon............Disney has doubled down on everything
Disney has to get more money per subscriber because the number of subscribers is decreasing significantly. The more they ask for, the more providers will say no, which means they have to ask for even more from the next guy. It's a never-ending cycle. The bubble is going to burst, and it will affect more than just TV.

ESPN has all these contracts with leagues and conferences that they have to pay for somehow. Without these contracts, pro leagues can't afford the ridiculous high salaries they pay to the coaches and athletes. If you thought it was expensive to go to games now, just wait until the TV revenue dries up and these teams are suddenly not able to afford their payroll.
