Notre Lame too good for a bowl

Y'all need to understand what this REALLY is.

Notre Dame HAS - they MUST - keep up the so-called mystique. And let's face it, folks the Irish have not exactly set the world on fire in bowl games over the last three decades.

If they don't play the bowl game, they don't risk a 60-3 blowout at the hands of a good team (like FSU got from UGA) that proves they never belonged in the first place. Despite all the focus on "opt outs" and the portal, you cannot change that fact in history.

"We're not going to a bowl game" means "we aren't risking being exposed as paper tigers, er, shamrocks for the whole world to see."

That's all this really is.

The Big 12 is fining Iowa State and Kansas State $500,000 each for turning down bowl invitations. The two schools made their decisions following coaching changes last week.
The non-playoff bowl system is in trouble

I hate ND and am ecstatic that they’re out, but it makes no sense that the committee had ND ahead of Miami all this time and then, with no new data points directly involving those two teams, decided to give the spot to Miami.

I assume it’s because they would otherwise have had no ACC representation but that makes no sense either.

There are so many inherent discrepancies and logical faults with this process that it’s basically a game of Whack-A-Mole.

They do this every year.

They pretty much always make a nonsense move right at the end that contradicts previous stances.

I feel almost certain if Virginia had won the ACC CG that Virginia and ND would be in and Miami would still be out along with whatever G5 team got tossed out for Virginia.

They just flat make up stuff on selection Sunday.

It’s why I trust them so little.

If you listen to the explanation, it kinda does make sense. They said that when BYU was ranked ahead of UM but behind ND it acted like a buffer, but when BYU got blown out and dropped (placing UM and ND side by side) they had to reevaluate, and with similar schedules and results, head to head was the deciding factor.

I get it.

Did they not get the entire "conference money" check for their playoff games last year? Something like $20m? Hey, sometimes being a one man band works out. And sometimes it doesnt.
