NYE and Cotton Bowl: How is NYE affecting your normal game watch plans?

I'm currently in my seat for the game. I have plenty of party stories of which the majority cannot be spoken of here.

I always stay in on amateur night ! Will be pulling on a cold one with some spicy snacks, and getting extremely hoarse pulling for my Tide. I await the final victory of 2015 and anticipate a greater start to 2016. Roll Tide Roll and bring number 16 home to Mama !

We still plan on having our family over like we normally do. Might do it a little earlier not sure yet. But once the game comes on I will be sitting in my normal seat and having the tv turned up loud. The Auburn loving family members we are making stay in the kitchen. :tongue:

I've been playing guitar and saxophone with the same band for 29 years. NYE used to be the easiest night of the year to book and musicians would make double to triple scale. Now, you're doing good to be working 3 out of 5 NYE's.

We used to be really busy in December playing corporate Christmas parties. Not every company has a band for their Christmas parties anymore.

Times they are a changing. I'll be home watching Bama this year.

I saw this article on yahoo but was not going to start a thread. College Footballs Mistake. Games on New Years Eve by Dan the Weasel. http://sports.yahoo.com/news/why-ar...-on-new-year-s-eve-again-053757483-ncaaf.html To me it was waste of my time. He went over how its spoiling New Years ever for people that want to celebrate and party. And that the Rose Bowl has so much power they command the New Years day slot. Its a very convoluted bunch of personal opinions and conjectures. Just filler for the holidays.

I recall many of the Sugar Bowls were played on New Years eve. Nothing better than watching Bama play football and then go party. This was a few decades ago. Now I prefer to go to dinner and come home watch the games relax and shoot off fireworks.

What more could you want for that night than to enjoy Alabama in the playoff and celebrating another New Year? What better entertainment could there be, whether you are partying or relaxing with the ones you love?

I couldn't care less about NYE, honestly. It's kinda cool staying up and seeing the new year in, so to speak, but I'm pretty 'meh' about it.

Alabama football is exponentially more important to me.

As a general rule we'll go have an early dinner and then stay off the roads on NYE. This year we're going to the game. Get to see if our plan for Dallas is a good one or needs tweaking before going to the USC game in September.

Same here. I'm 43, have four kids four and under, and I'll be enjoying an adult beverage with the missus while watching the game. No interest in going out.

The Rose Bowl isn't what it used to be UNLESS the playoffs or Championship game is being held there. The Rose Bowl hasn't really been the same since 1946 when Bama beat USCw! They got tired of losing to Alabama, so they locked in the B1G whatever!

Went to Sugar Bowl New Years Eve(I think the first one on NYE) against ND in '73, rained in Tulane Stadium, (hate we lost)still like the idea of New Year's Eve game.

My dilemma is that we have a party every New Years Eve for my father in laws birthday. There are 15-20 kids over and they get the TV for whatever movie is popular this year. I'm hoping I can command the remote by 8 to watch the game. if not I'll be in the bedroom on some device watching the game on a small screen. The worst part is we are going to be in Massachusetts so I can't duck out and run home.

Hubs and I live on a boat in the Keys in winter. Retired, of course. Not rich. Don't go out when we are at "dirt" home. DO go out NYE in the Keys. Will miss those bands this year while on boat watching Bama football.

My father-in-law's birthday is the same day!!!! But you can't be my brother-in-law because I know my FIL will be glued to the game.

I read the article about the game and I agree the Rose Bowl has too tight a grip over the TV bowl schedule. But he made two points that didn't make sense to me.

1. It is a bad time to have the games because people have to work in bars, restaurants, hospitals, police, etc. Well, don't all those people (or people in that line of work) also work on New Year's Day?

2. It is a bad time to have them because people like to go out to parties on that day. Well, if people aren't out getting drunk, isn't that a good thing? Back in my younger days, we called New Year's Eve "amateur night" because people who normally didn't drink much were out trying to drive. You can still have a New Year's Eve party, just have it revolve around football. And unless you are a fan of one of the participating teams, you probably won't be watching as closely as we will.

Was 13 years old and went to a friend's NYE party. Watched the game which we lost 24-23 (still have nightmares of seeing Tom Clements completing that pass over Tyrone King to a sophomore tight end name Robin Weber).

One of the worst New Year's Eve's I've ever had.

It actually sucks for me. I'm paying too much to go to a high priced old Opera House in Atlanta. The game may be on while the ball drops.

I'm coming from California, and was sorta going home to be able to watch the game with my Dad. My girlfriend wanted to go out for NYE, and my sister told her about a party in Atlanta so we're going. I won't watch but an hour of the game if that.

But I'll watch it on DVR. NYs Day
