I think both QBs did well. I thought they both played well with the 1's. IMO McCarron played a little better with the 2's. I think Sims stands in the pocket longer...but that may be because he knew he wouldnt get hit.

Stats were even...actually...AJ's were just a little better considering the better % and the td. I still think there is not much, if any, separation.

Question for consideration...if they are even, would you go with the player that has more years left???

Someone that hasn't gotten any praise that should..Jay Williams..He looked solid punting the ball..4 punts for a 47yrd average is a welcome stat we haven't had at Bama in a lonnnnnng time punting the ball..Lets hope he keeps that up during the fall & has those kinda stats this coming season..He definitely can "Boom 'Em"..

So he was the one booming those...I didn't catch the jersey# (we were seated in the upper deck) plus it seemed there was a constant exodus of people in our section going up and down for bbq nachos (yum) kept getting in my line of vision...I was hoping someone would chime in on that. He kicked a couple 50 yarders in warm-ups...

HAHA..I want some of those bbq nachos now..It's great to see him looking like the all american type punter we used a scholly on coming out of high school..He's always had the leg power..His consistency has been his problem..He obviously has worked hard in the off season..

Sims really impressed me today. I could be wrong, but I think if he had the same time and experience in the system as AJ he would be far ahead of him. AJ should be creating some separation at this point with the extra time including real game experience and the fact that he can't says a lot to me. I was solid behind AJ until today, but I really have to say Sims is the one with the upside at this point. Not giving up on AJ mind you, but to say my eyes were opened today would be an understatement.
I can't say I've always been behind AJ. I have no real problem, with him aside from some concerns about his decision making. Phillip Sims is just one of those guys that caught my eye from the instant he appeared on Alabama's radar. Mind you, I'm no expert but I'd put him up there with Cody and Trent Richardson in terms of the guys that got my really enthused at the prospects of their playing for the Tide. I have always felt he's just a more complete QB and in terms of ability, I think Phillip Sims faces very few limitations. It's not often you get a quarterback in and you have trouble identifying his weakness.

Mind you, I was so big on Trent that I wanted him to get playing time over Ingram (initially during his freshman year), it wasn't that I didn't like Mark because I did but Trent's potential was just so fantastic. I happened to overlook how big Mark's upside could have been though and I could be doing that to AJ as well. Having said that, I agree that AJ should have been further ahead of Phillip Sims at this point. The fact that he isn't either shows how good Phillip is, or that AJ is lacking.

Overall, I thought it was a very productive A-Day game. Look at it objectively and realize that our defense didn't get to run all of it plays and still looked very good. Offense had some issue but we're trying to give the QB's plenty of game time reps which probably won't be our offensive strategy this season. I mean, did you see what TR did. He's going to be incredible running and receiving.

We had people step up in the three spring games that we needed to step up. Lacy, DQ, Dial, Bell, Fowler. Everyone looked pretty solid.

I would say that the QBs didn't seperate themselves very much but since their stats were very close I think the fumble by AJ sticks out just a little bit more than it already did. INTs happen. Our DBs were very good and I would say that AJ's INT wasn't near as bad as Sims INT. Going to be a fun race.

watched the game at our local sports pub with other bama fans and everyone had a great time clearing out their wind pipes with some good roll tide roll yells. this team is loaded! cns has only one issue he must deal with to get to another MNC game and that is what killed the team last year. BIG HEADEDITIS. hope i spelled that correctly. anyway, gonna be another great season of football. rtr

Did anyone notice if Maze came back in the game after he got his head banged off the turf? That looked like mild concussion territory to me...

I didn't notice him coming back in, but we left just before the start of the 4th qtr. An article on al.com stated that he was ok but didnt' elaborate on the injury.

No he did not come back in. It did appear to be a slight concussion as he did not appear to have injured anything (Knee, shoulder etc.)

I didn't like AJ fumbling on the goal line. He came back from the center to fast before he had the ball exchange from the center. On another note, did any one notice that the snapper back to punters put a couple too high which messed the timing up for the punter/s?

I watched the game again this morning an that laning his face took looked like it injured his head and his neck just by the way the helmet dug into the ground. Cns was live mic and kept asking Maze if he knew who he was. Hopefully it's not too serious.

A quick observation I had on the QB's was that A.J. still holds on to the ball a lot and wants to make a play and gets himself in deep trouble with losing yardage, sacks etc. Sims doesn't seem to do that as much, which might go back to the decision making of each one. A.J. seems to always want to try to make a play when it isn't there to make. Saban won't go for that kind of play too much.

In Saban's post game press conference he blamed the fumble on Vlachos actually.

After watching the game I like P Sims a little bit better. He seems to have more poise and a stronger arm. However I will give this to AJ. He seem to be able to put a little more touch on a ball.

The only two things I'm sold on after this game are our D and running game. Trent is an absolute beast who only seems stronger than before - SEC defenses sjouke be scared of that. Our D is solid and we did a better job if pressuring the QB.

But it's the QB play I'm most concerned with at his point. AJ was not as poised as he should have been at this point and doesn't have great mobility. But he did seem to make a few better decisions than Sims did - especially the out route late in the game that Dre picked - that was a bad decision and a bad throw. The only good news Sims has the arm to get him out of some of those bad decisions. It's gonna be a tough call come August. But if the OL can gel like they did in 09 we've got a running game and D needed to take some pressure off the QB.
