I think the number of true freshmen in the two deep on defense is indicative of how bad our defense was last year. Of course some of those "children" who were forced onto the field last year will grow into men and be great players in time. Hopefully sooner rather than later. As for Shane Lee, I'm still not sure if he's got the speed for linebacker. He did drop some weight this offseason, but I tend to think he might be better as a rush DE.

As for the DL, we played pretty much everybody with a pulse last year. I hope all the suffering has a benefit this season, I'd love to be able to rotate guys and keep them fresh.

Article on TF yesterday mentioned that we're 10 deep on the DL...10!!!

Moses is listed as a senior. Take it up with the football program.

I'm not sure if he's automatically redshirted because he didn't play or if the team has to do some paperwork for that.

But he's list as a senior by the football team.
Doesn't matter as he will definitely turn Pro after this season... ;)

A few things I thought were particularly interesting:

- Two true freshmen at Jack OLB...Anderson starts and Sanders is #2. Missouri will try to confuse them early and often. Saban knows that, and still feels they are our best options. Says a lot for the young men. Just listen to the leaders, do your job, and don't fall for the eye candy.

- Two true freshmen tied for #1 at Star. Same comments about opponents attempting to confuse them.
The really interesting thing is that typically, the guy listed as the JLB starter is the three down player, and the SAM has been the rush specialist. I was fully expecting we'd see Anderson and Sanders in rush sub-packages, but not yet as three down guys specifically due to the discipline required to play that spot. I kinda wonder if we'll still see Allen as more of the base and nickel three down guy and the TFs come in for pass rush. If not, then Anderson must be an incredible student of the game to be showing all the right things at this point.

Having Moses out there will help him a lot.

maybe, but he's not anywhere near the ideal height and also has relatively short arms. I'm thinking he takes another year of body rebuild, getting leaner a building more twitch and then he's back in contention next year

I suspect we'll see different roles out of those guys as the season progresses on.

I have no idea how good Sanders is or will be after his injury, but BRob would start for the Buckeyes right now.
I thought Robinson would break out last year and challenge Najee a bit and then be huge this year. Honestly, I was disappointed with him last year. I hope he has things figured out and is ready to shine. Between Najee, BRob, and Sanders, I think we are solid at RB.

Good article/interview with Will Anderson's HS coach.

Hope the coach is right, but it’s a big leap from HS to the SEC.

I have no doubt whatsoever about Anderson’s pass rush (or Sanders’, for that matter). That’s a place where a true freshman can help....”Sic ‘em on the quarterback, son. You don’t have to worry about anything else.” They can flat do that.

It’s the other parts of the game...being in the right place, knowing your assignment and not free-lancing. Striking the right balance between being (1) deer-in-the-headlights over-thinking and (2) undisciplined and over-aggressive, either of which can have bad outcomes.

We have a number of true freshmen in key defensive positions. Missouri will try to confuse them with all sorts of strange alignments, motion, and other eye candy. If I were an opposing coach, I know I would.

No doubt, they’ve been coached up on all of this. But being told and seeing it in practice is a lot different from when the real bullets start flying. Moses will have them lined up right pre-snap. Still, we need to expect some mistakes, some out of position, and some blown coverages. I also expect them to mature quickly.

Assuming we have a full season (no small thing there), I’m looking forward to watching this team grow up.

Seems we have this discussion every year with multiple Bama starters playing as true freshmen but they do play and play well. Of course there will be a learning curve but do you think Saban/Sunseri would have him starting if he did not know the playbook fairly well? We have a 4 year and 5 year player at Sam that know the playbook backwards and forwards that could play Jack but Anderson is starting. I think it is for a reason and that is he is ready.
