***OFFICIAL***Alabama - Ole Miss POST-GAME Thread (Merged - keep discussion here)

Re: ***OFFICIAL***Alabama - Ole Miss POST-GAME Thread (keep discussion here)

I am stunned that we played so poorly on offense, but we played our best game in years defensively. Net, a huge win on the road against an SEC West opponent.

I am a happy camper... :cheers2:

Good showing against a team that has consistently kept teams out of the endzone.

The number don't lie.

Re: ***OFFICIAL***Alabama - Ole Miss POST-GAME Thread (keep discussion here)

Watching the offense was simply frustrating for the most part. I don't know what to make of GMac's constant zeroing in on JJ after doing so wonderfully with his reads and checking down to numerous other receivers all season long. I'm hoping it's an aberration.

Defense? Simply phenomenal.

Re: ***OFFICIAL***Alabama - Ole Miss POST-GAME Thread (keep discussion here)

One other thing - Bama fans need to remember this game when Tiffin misses his next kick (and he will miss another kick)...

Re: ***OFFICIAL***Alabama - Ole Miss POST-GAME Thread (keep discussion here)

Felt better than the UK game to me. Offense has some red zone work to do but Ole Miss has a good D. Our D played lights out

Re: ***OFFICIAL***Alabama - Ole Miss POST-GAME Thread (keep discussion here)

Offense needs some work. Defense looks phenomenal. I think we knew this before this game but I think it was (overall) a good game.

Yes, we need to work on some things...but if you have a perfect game, you tend to get beat the next week because you start to think you are unbeatable. So...we work hard and focus on what we need to do to improve our passing game.

I think I am going to have no voice from this game from screaming RUN THE BALL...but alas, it did not carry over to Oxford.

Yet, I am happy. We win. AU loses. All is right with the world.:)

Re: ***OFFICIAL***Alabama - Ole Miss POST-GAME Thread (keep discussion here)

Good win against a good team on the road. Tiffin looked like a pro as did Ingram. GMac seemed to zero on JJ due to being under constant pressure. OM has a great defense. Our defense is so good it almost seems unfair.

Re: ***OFFICIAL***Alabama - Ole Miss POST-GAME Thread (keep discussion here)

I didn't like it that our offense (at times) struggled today, but that's going to happen - props to Tiffin for stepping up and being the scorer today. The defense played awesome today - it seems like they're getting better every week.

I hope that the new LB play is more indicative of their level of readiness and preparation than the Ole Miss O-line disaster. I found it a little weird that anytime our defense breathed on Snead, he got scared. He played scared the entire game. We did get 5 TOs, which is always awesome, and helped Snead increase his INT numbers to 9.

I'm thinking that South Carolina will bring a better game (especially their D-line). We'll be ready to go. Roll Tide Roll!!!

Re: ***OFFICIAL***Alabama - Ole Miss POST-GAME Thread (keep discussion here)

The Ole Miss defense played very very good. Give a little credit where it's due.

McElroy forced a few throws, missed a few reads, tried to quite the "give Julio the ball" critics. I think some just don't realize how good the Ole Miss defense played today. They had McElroy throwing off his back foot all game. Came with some good blitz packages and some fine red zone play. In the end we wore them down and still racked up 354 yards, with Ingram getting another career high rushing game, with 173.

Our offense wasn't that bad folks. We played against a good defense today.

Our defense is just plain nasty...

Bring on the Gamecocks!

RTR!

Re: ***OFFICIAL***Alabama - Ole Miss POST-GAME Thread (keep discussion here)

The running game was very good against a good OM DL. The passing game was not so good, IMO, primarily because of continually calling passing plays, GM's focus on JJ and refusal to go through his progressions even when he had time. IMO, the OL was good in run blocking and decent in pass blocking (I know what some others are saying - I guess we just disagree :)). Bama had 354 yards of total O, including 202 rushing without any flukey plays, with a badly functioning passing game - not bad.

The D was suffocating. McClain, Arenas, Reamer, Dareus, Washington, Green, Barron and Jackson played extremely well. Did I leave anyone out :) ?

Re: ***OFFICIAL***Alabama - Ole Miss POST-GAME Thread (keep discussion here)

defense is pretty dang good....shut down type if you aks me. o line was inconsistent.......plus ole miss d played really well and inspired. the playcalling on Bama O is too predictable. but thats easy to say b/c everyone knows what kind of run plays Bama likes (inside, up the middle, traps, etc) and so the opposing D is prepped for it. but overall a very good showing against a team that had this game circled on their calendar with a record crowd at their place. very good win indeed.

Re: ***OFFICIAL***Alabama - Ole Miss POST-GAME Thread (keep discussion here)

Our defense is pure awesomeness!!! :BigA:
Our Oline has got some work to do though. GMac had his worst performance to date and was under pressure all day. I kept waiting for CJM to adjust some of the playcalling to give GMac a better chance to get rid of the ball, but playcalling was very predictable today. I called the plays a few times before they ran them. Offensively we stunk it up, but did just enough in moving the ball, and clock management to play keep-away from Ole Miss.

This win is due to just one of the absolute best defensive performances I've seen in a while from BAMA, and our special teams play stepped up big time. I loved the gutsy fake early on. It was a stifling and dominating defensive win, and I'll take it. And oh yes, we won by double digits.:biggrin2:

Oh and I didn't mean to leave out Ingram, it didn't seem like it at the time, but he had a really good day. 173 yds.

Ole Miss Game Defensive Gameplan Was No Suprise

Everybody stacks the line of scrimmage to stop Bama's run, Ole Miss did the same thing. Ole Miss stacked the line and gt pressure on Gmac and their secondary smothered our receivers the whole game.

Both defenses played very well but Bama's defense was easily the stronger of the two.

Some will say that Gmac had a bad game and granted he didn't hit the long ball like he has done in the past. In fairness to him, our recejvers were not getting open and left Gmac with having to hold the ball too long or throw it away or throw into good man coverage only to see the defender make a play.

Against a very good defense, I don't think he had a single INT.

The lack of screen passes bugged me

It seemed like the way Ole Miss was rushing that a quick screen to the tailback was a big gain waiting to happen. I understand that we seemed to be trying to exploit something we saw in the secondary down in the redzone by throwing to Jones...the passes just didn't hit. The lack of the screen game seemed like more of a gameplanning mental lapse than any complaints about targeting Jones.

Re: ***OFFICIAL***Alabama - Ole Miss POST-GAME Thread (keep discussion here)

Just my take on this but the OM defensive front is one of the better we will see except for FL. With that said and it being GMAC's first year as a starter, I'm not ready to blast the offense as of today. We won and that's the bottom line in any game. Defense is just plain awesome. Hats off to Corey, he had one hell of a game as well as the rest of the big "D". Easy to sit from our view but it's another when looking through a helmet. Look at their production on offense and then at ours and it puts it in perspective. We just plain dominated.:biggrin2:

Re: ***OFFICIAL***Alabama - Ole Miss POST-GAME Thread (keep discussion here)

Can't say enough about the defense. It was great, wonderful, awesome, just pick any adjective and it works for the defense. Tiffin's da man!! Oh yeah!

Re: ***OFFICIAL***Alabama - Ole Miss POST-GAME Thread (keep discussion here)

According to CBS, Bama has now held four of six opponents under 100 yards in the first half... :cheers2:

Re: ***OFFICIAL***Alabama - Ole Miss POST-GAME Thread (keep discussion here)

The running game was very good against a good OM DL. The passing game was not so good, IMO, primarily because of continually calling passing plays, GM's focus on JJ and refusal to go through his progressions even when he had time.
I agree especially that the play-calling was less than perfect. I really thought Bama could have run the ball in the third quarter to put the game away, but they seemed intent on throwing.

Minor complaint, though. That was a dominating victory over a good SEC team on the road.

Re: ***OFFICIAL***Alabama - Ole Miss POST-GAME Thread (keep discussion here)

The ST were terrific as well: blocked punt, 5-5 FGs, great KOs, no reeeaaal long returns :), great fumble takeaway on OM punt return, successful fake punt, more ?
