Official Alabama vs. Iowa Thread

This is a good win, but I hope we can develop a point guard so that RS doesn't have to play 38-40 minutes every game this year. His knees need the rest. Iowa lost but they played 11 men tonight.

I was glad to see us switch to the zone more at the end of the 1st half and throughout the 2nd half (although he was mixing it up from series-to-series in the 2nd half.) The way Iowa was chucking up those long perimeter shots they were unfortunately getting a lot of those long bounce offensive rebounds that come when a team is playing man-to-man. We seemed to get a lot more of the long-bounce rebounds once we switched to the zone.

All we need is somebody else to step up and give us another perimeter shooting threat to compliment Steele. Riley LOOKS like he could be that somebody even though he was ice cold tonight. He has a nice shooting motion and most of his shots were oh so close, but he just didn't quite connect. If we can get another outside shooting force that teams have to respect, it's going to open things up even more for Davidson and Hendrix to dominate in the post.

Considering how little production we got out of the bench and how poorly we did from the line and beyond that arc I think that was a pretty impressive win tonight against a decent opponent.

Box Score on ESPN
Gee-21 points, 6 rebounds
Steele-18, 6 assits (I thought it is was more assists)
Davidson-15, 11 rebounds
Hendrix-14, 7 rebounds

Hollinger-2 points and Jamison-2 points (all free throws).

Riley, Torrence ZERO. I know its early in the season, but Bama will need some scoring from these guys; they will have to get comfortable shooting on the road.

Riley seemed to have a struggling shot today, should be an oddity, not the norm. But I agree, reserves need to develop into respectable scoring threats to relieve the main 4 more effectively.

Liked what I saw from Hendrix today, although he struggled to break free for more touches and lost a few boards after initial contact with the ball. When he gets the ball, the only thing stopping him from scoring is a missed shot, no defender has really been able to stop him yet.

Each one of the big four played 35 minutes or more, with RS putting in the most (38). Not one of the Iowa players put in that much and only one played more than 30 minutes.

Let's hope the bench comes along quickly. RTR!
