Latu slapped the ball while his knees were out of bounds
ball came loose again before LSU took possession
Latu being out of bounds and touching the loose ball means ball is out of bounds.
Nobody had possession so ball returns to bama

A live ball has to be recovered - completely - before it goes out-of-bounds, otherwise the ball is out-of-bounds.

A player who is out-of-bounds - i.e., having any body part out-of-bounds - who touches a live ball makes that ball immediately out-of-bounds...
