I repect you. But think you have bumped your head. I have talked to 2 different NFL DC and one DB coach in the last 3 years and asked about our DBs especially corners. They all 3 said to a man that Bamas DB are taught more technique and form than any other college. They did say our guys probably have too much put on them in the terms of schemes and responsibilities. But they know how to play in phase which many DBs dont. Sometimes I think we get them thinking too much rather than just go play but we are talking about a man who has won 5 Titles coaching them up.
Let me premise this by saying that I have had never had experience coaching secondary. It seems like we do not try to make plays on the ball. We disrupt the catch, but never seem to get a head around to get the ball. I don't understand that. I also fully realize that my inability to understand it may be due to my first statement...

Nothing but praise from me. Great job Bama. Next year, baby. Hats off to Clemson, and Watson is a damn good QB.

They'll suffer many defeats next season.

Agreed, you covered my thoughts as well. Tide will be back and the memory of this game will somehow be incorporated into "The Process" for future teams. Roll Tide

The only text I've received after the game was a group text from an auburn co-worker of mine saying "Roll tide roll". Auburn is never happier than when Alabama loses. Never. Not even when Auburn wins.

Clemson ran 99 plays against our defense. That is entirely the offenses fault and the reason they scored 35 points. 99 plays is absolutely absurd.

Agreed. Defense can only bail you out so many times. Tempo offense has disadvantages, as well as advantages. Bottom line, you have to move the chains to keep your defense effective.

Jalen regressed as the defenses started getting tougher late in the season. He just never learned to throw the ball. And he has no shot of completing a pass on an unplanned roll out. 15 games and this is what he has. I seriously doubt that he will get better with more time, but maybe having Tua pushing for the starting job will help with that.

This is going to sound like I am blaming Jalen for the loss, but I am not. The coaches own player development. They have to put him in a position to succeed. They did not. And he just wasn't good enough to over come both his personal weaknesses and the play calling that exacerbated it.

What could have been regarded as the best defense ever will now be set aside as not good enough to finish. After all, in spite of your offensive struggles, how many 3 and out possessions did it force in this game? If they had to defend too many plays then it is at least partially their fault. Scoring drives aside, many of the drives that ended in punts could have ended sooner. They only gave up 7 points in the first half, but they gave up over 200 yards and allowed Clemson to control the clock. This before they were exhausted.

This was a team loss. Clemson was just better on this day.

How much is Watson going to run with two minutes to go in the game?
It's not important because what's now done is done. I'm proud of the team and their effort, and thought it was a great season.
Still, and I haven't waivered in this viewpoint in forever. I think Coach Saban needs to be the head coach and get his butt out of the secondary. He's not a good secondary coach at all, in the least.
Kareem Jackson, Landon Collins, Dee, Ha-Ha, and Dre, and Cyrus and many many NFL coaches would disagree with your assessment. It is helpful for CNS to have a Mel Tucker type though because it does allow him less to worry about in that area.

Ask CNS to grade his calling and strategy in this game and he'll take the arrows. You can't expect a defense to literally never tire or a secondary to cover receivers forever.

The strategy Saban employs works great... until it doesn't. However, pro defenses every week get burned by better offenses. It happens. Watson ran a clinic tonight. He was unbelievable.

Well they did have 2 TOs left. I was just using an example, but point is you're oversimplifying. But whatever, practically everyone in football would disagree with your assessment, as would the multiple DBs in the NFL that CNS has developed.

Anyone who blames Hurts for this loss is an idiot. The kid drove our team down the field with 3 min left to take the lead. You cant ask for more. Our D was in position to win the game. They did not do that. We made several bad plays on that last drive defensively l, not just one. I think Hurts is special and never let up. He is 18 years old and played like a 4 year senior with 4 minutes left.
True ... his efforts actually helped us win the game. He actually played a solid game ... I actually thought this game on a bigger stage was better than the Washington game. Hats off to him again.

What did you expect though? Clemson was a top 10 defense that shut out Ohio State in their previous game. Ohio State didn't have a true freshman QB, Ohio State didn't have a brand new OC for that game. There was never any way Alabama's offense was going to come out and look like they did last year, with Kiffin on his game, a Heisman trophy winner, and a senior QB. It just wasn't going to happen...

Other issues aside, the difference in terms of offense doing what it needed to do probably came down to a few key drops and penalties (which I have already elaborated on). You have multiple drives that would have continued if not for drops, and in addition you have a couple of drives with good field position that move backwards due to penalties. You change those two things, even if Alabama doesn't score any more points, they hold the ball longer, and Clemson runs less plays. So, a little better execution on offense is one of many things that probably makes the difference in the game. I'm not pointing fingers though, a lot of things went wrong leading up to this game and that doesn't detract from the great job all these guys did in my opinion.

Would love to think we're better than Pitt and NC St. guess not. We have got to get better QB play. I don't give a crap what anyone says. Tua will start next year.
In the words of Andrew Zow "The favorite player at Alabama is the back up QB." No truer words were spoken and you've just reiterated it. SMH.

Not another team in the country gets to the National Championship game with a TF QB. So proud of this team. Still 2016 SEC Champs! We will be right back in it next year.
