Who wants to fire him? And if you did who are you going to hire? In the NIL era we are going to need to play ‘money ball’ but I’m not sure anyone has figured out a winning methodology for that.
That said the game plan today was bad. We picked a helluva game for first game. Got some Gus magic and called a vanilla enough offensive game plan to get us in a hole early.

If we are going to play this game then let’s go with the realistic chances of it happening with the names being thrown around:
Sark and Day: 0.1% chance unless fired.
Dabo: It is never going to happen nor does Alabama fans asking for it to happen really know what they are in for. Dabo had two generational qbs back to back in pre NIL and pre Wild West transfer portal conditions. What has he done post Lawerence? He has meddled in mediocrity in a bad conference and backdoored into a playoff because SMU was locked in and was his opponent. Yes Alabama would be more disciplined but we would also be seriously outgunned more than we currently are and we would be highly dependent on generational talent at qb to progress. Dabo is getting older and is less likely to make a move. Alabama is practically the high school girlfriend showing up to the 50th class reunion at this point for him while Clemson is the wife he has been with for 40 years and had a family with. Clemson probably couldn’t match Alabama in terms of dollars in a bidding war, but they sure as hell could come up with a number and perks that Dabo would feel comfortable with telling Alabama to lose his number for.
Realistic chance: 1%
Lanning- Young and very much like Saban in intensity. Has a habit of losing big games often because of stupid aggressive unnecessary play calls in big moments. 0-4 vs DeBoer. Let’s face it… we ain’t winning a bidding war with Oregon over him. He comes only if he is interested.
Realistic chances: 5%
Norvell: Norvell’s interest would only be if the ACC implodes and FSU is without a clear path to a national championship because the SEC and B1G pass on them.
Realistic Chance: 30%
Kiffin: Probably the most likely on the list. But Kiffin is starting to view Ole Miss as home for the long haul. He would be an improvement over DeBoer in many ways but also a downgrade in others. You can’t just get the good but not the bad with him. But he would probably be open to it
Realistic Chances: 40%
Matt Rhule: Rhule is about to see his peak at Nebraska because Nebraska will never be able to compete day in and day out vs Oregon, Washington, USC, Ohio State, Penn St, and Michigan long term. Geography plays heavily against him in Lincoln. Tuscaloosa and Alabama pockets make it far easier to compete for a title than at Nebraska. Will he take it… it depends on who else is interested and if Rhule doesn’t have the feeling of going pro again

Fickle: Possible. He is solid but the question is if Alabama would want him. Does Byrne see his limitations and the context of his situation at Wisconsin or does he see it as too much of a gamble.
Realistic Chances if offered: High but I don’t know if he would go another route to get another B1G job with better benefits. So 80%
Byrne probably would hire another young up and comer and have guys like Rhule or Campbell as backups if DeBoer was fired today. So it’s a be careful what you wish for kinda thing. To me Alabama fans are acting like Caesar’s assassins… they are immediately mad at the guy who slighted him and don’t have a clear realistic alternative nor see the immediate danger in stabbing the “dictator†in the back.

FWIW, I agree with you but plenty of people (alot of new posters, but some not) who are venting about it.
And this is why college football fans are getting more and more disillusioned....one sniff of adversity and the players think its not on them so they transfer and leave the program vs staying and working it out...build character. Unfortunately there are programs willing to drop the cash to get them to transfer...its killing the game for the true fan
Should have ran with Kiffin. He knows the league and has won at a lesser school.

Yep, this team basically looked exactly like last years except the names on the back of some jerseys are different.
Especially on defense where Wommack once again proves he is a bad DC. He should have been gone after last year. Gus didn’t do anything new, it was the same offense he’s run for 2 decades. This defense should have been better prepared. Instead, the play calling was so bad at times it basically screamed run it here because we can’t stop you.
I’ve given up on DeBoer, like others, I think he is in over his head. I’m sick of the no emotion stare from the sidelines. Do something coach!
Some posters are asking “who is better that Bama could getâ€Â. Well, I think there are plenty would come to Bama. I have been against Dabo coming but, I’d take him in a heartbeat over what we have now. At least he coaches with some passion, his teams play with passion. They are holding their own against LSU tonight and look far better than Bama. I’m not saying I want him, just that I’d take him over DeBoer at this point.
Saban would have made a 12 team playoff every single year except his first. If DeBoer miss his second in 2 years he needs to be sent packing. That’s not the standard at Bama and we can’t let DeBoer stick around long enough to completely tear the house down.
Kiffin would be more familiar with Alabama both in recruiting and expectations. But again you have to take the extreme highs with his extreme lows. So i think it’s probably at best a slight upgrade of what we got currently but has the realistic potential to be a Curry level hire that we regret too. It’s far from a great and sensible hire
Well this was a first for me… Started actually going to games during Saban’s tenure and never saw us lose a game that I went to until today.
FSU fans were super nice before the game and they were partying hard after. Rough day but oh well. The Gus Bus trucked us and we got out coached. CKD better figure it out soon!

I disagree, I think there were a couple better possible hires out there- I say this obviously not knowing which coaches were willing to leave their current program. But I think we put too much emphasis on a quick hire to prevent a player exodus, and on very immediate results from the previous season or two. I did not think DeBoer would be as bad as he is looking to be so far though. But I think his success at Washington was pretty much on a hero ball Heisman level QB and luck. His teams never really looked good except in one or two games, such as against Oregon. I think Lanning would have been a better hire despite the fact that DeBoer beat him twice in one season. That was unlikely to continue. Likewise, DeBoer gave Kirby a shock last year, but I think Kirby is the better coach overall (I don’t think Kirby was available). But it’s water under the bridge now and no way to really know.
I’m all ears to hear who we should hire, but what options have won what we want? Us losing this game and the coaching is a micro issue, macro issue is we have no money compared to others. Everyone needs to look at the teams that made the playoffs last year and the resources their alumni bring to bear.
Rather than try to pick a name out of those I'd just look for a coach with a certain personality. DeBoer is described as a player's coach. The players like him. Some would say that's a good thing because their theory is that players are going to play hard for a coach they like. I'd go the other way and go for a coach the players might fear a bit. Bryant and Saban were not necessarily liked by the players but they certainly were feared.
