Game Thread: OFFICIAL POSTGAME THREAD - Bama vs. Hogs...

Well, I'm worried about defense now. I saw the secondary and the front seven both falling for the same misdirection plays in the second half as in the first. I think the ultimate illustration was a safety and a corner both covering the same receiver but getting no closer than five yards...
Arkansas played "hide the tight end and running back" all game. I just don't know of anyone on our schedule that's going to be able to gamble on that type of gameplan like they did. Auburn and MSU are probably the closest that can, but Auburn doesn't seem to have the running game to go hand in hand with it and MSU doesn't have the qb anymore to threaten us down field. Mizzou is probably the biggest obstacle we have left. I just don't have much faith in Esminger and Burrow at challenging our defense.

I love our offense. Because of our defensive struggles, our offense will have to stay healthy, especially Tua/Jalen and some key receivers/RB. If Bama has major injuries on offense, I do not feel confident that we will win the SEC Championship. Every time Tua gets the slightest injury (knee yesterday) I get worried!

It's just the opposite of what we've grown accustomed to. In the past, it was we couldn't afford injuries on defense, and it did indeed cost us an SEC title last year. Of course, it took several injuries, but the point remains.

It seems to me, this is just the type team we have this season. CNS wasn't even upset coming off the field yesterday. No, I don't think he was just hiding it either. I think for the first time, graduations, the NFL draft, and coaching changes are proving too much to overcome this soon on defense. Hopefully, it comes together before it bites us, but I just can't see it biting us until the postseason at the earliest. Maybe I'm too optimistic.

If we have an offense on a similar level as OUs last year then all we need is a solid defense to win a championship. Plus I think by the time we play a team with the talent to beat us (Georgia)our defense will be ready.

I really can't wait until the LSU game

I'm expecting the LSU game to be a toe-to-toe fight...

Right now is when leadership needs to take hold on defense. Players like Wilson, Thompson and Davis need to get that unit playing on the same page. Saban and Tosh need to collaborate to help out as well. Things will only get harder going forward in terms of competition. Opposing team coaches will look at the film from yesterday and find things to exploit in future games.

I did not think to look yesterday. Were we playing lots of 2nd and 3rd teammers on D in the 4th QTR for the hawgs last two scores? I know I remember seeing some starting DBs in there.

It was all back ups on the final scoring drive. There were some back ups mixed in during the third quarter.

It was the 2s. So there was a mix but yes it was 2nd string heavy. However, we had pretty bug issues before that.

It seems like communication and assignments are the biggest issues.

I think our offense is better because of our run game. More well rounded

I am there with you Earl. Blown assignments, poor reads, and, to me, it wasn’t like we were “flying to the ball” like we normally see with our defense. Understandably some of that can be due to inexperience and “thinking instead of reacting”. And I know this offense is explosive and even on an off day should score 35-40. But it always happens every year where a team plays us like they are the ‘86 Bears and we roll out our B- game. And that is where this defense concerns me.

Unless our OC either stays out late on Bourbon street, has a look at me gameplan, or decides Tua must win the heisman I think we roll LSU. Franks, Perine, and scarlet tore up LSU’s defense. Unless you think they are better than our offense then I would put the number at 42 at which LSU must score to win and I don’t have faith that Burrow is capable at that.

Here are some numbers. Numbers are just numbers, not biased. So, you can take them make what you will out of them.

SEC points allowed (all games)

1. Miss St ……….76
2. Georgia ……..78
3. Kentucky …..83
4. Auburn ……...86
5. Florida ……...89
6. Alabama …...96

Mid-pack is not the standard we are used to and it seems to be getting worse instead of better. This is going to take some getting used to but I will get used to it and not going to let it ruin my day with Mizzou like it did Saturday.

Something seems really off with these numbers.

I'm with you but I'd check Franks' stats again. He had a miserable game. BUT, he did have some critical plays. But on the whole he was pitiful. Scarlett and Perine were really really good.

Our punter could still redshirt. Only played in 4 games and has not seen the field in 3 weeks. LOL

What does PPG indicate here? I know it's not points per game. Penalties?
