Bama Game Thread: Official Postgame Thread - Bama vs. LSU...

The two missed field goals concern me. I don’t want him getting the yips this time of the year. A secondary concern is the six unscored points cost him the record. He’s at 502 behind 530 and 522. Assuming we win one of the next two, we have at least five games left.

Isn’t he a Soph?
Yes, plus he loves college life. He may be one of the few that comes back for a senior year. probably not, but maybe. I can’t speak for him, but I get that impression . #3 is one of my favorites. Really great attitude!

I have several concerns: 11:00 am at Kentucky will be a weird game. Seeing starting slowly then coming on as we wake up. Voodoo Hare is always squirrelly. If we make it to Atlanta and beat GA, several teams ahead of us with ridiculous schedules have to lose. But whatever happens, I am growing to love this team. They have "pluck and grit."

Interesting post-game conference from Brian Kelly.

Several of the reporters tried to goad him into making inflammatory comments, especially about the play that ended Daniels' night. He didn't take the bait. His response to a question about targeting was that they asked the refs to review and were told that the SEC office was doing that. The SEC office didn't feel targeting happened, so they moved on.

Repeatedly said that LSU played well, but that's not good enough when you're playing Alabama in Tuscaloosa. To win that game, you have to play elite, and they didn't do that.

I actually came away impressed.

After rewatching the game, the single most important play of the game was early in the 3rd quarter on a 3rd and 10. LSU had just scored and if Milroe doesn’t scramble for the 1st down, we are forced to punt, and there‘s no telling what would have happened. Instead, we got the 1st down, then scored a TD and tied the game. That 3rd down play could have been a 14 point swing.

Also, one thing I’m still not clear on. We got the INT and then committed a false start. It should have been 1st and 15 when we ran the play with Law. Instead, we ran one play and it was 3rd down all of a sudden. Did they miss a play?

By the way, the “drove him into the ground”

He most certainly did not. That video shows Turner spun off of him before hitting the turf.

It was a clean, very hard, tackle. And I say Turner actually compensated as best he could not to disable Daniels.
That phrase gets thrown around a lot and it basically means “he fell on top of him”, which he did.

The video above shows otherwise. He rolled off Daniels right side before impact with the ground.

Daniels did not take Turner’s full body weight. At least that’s what the video above looks like to me. He was concussed because of how his head hit the turf which was impossible to avoid.

Looking at the tackle again, Daniels head was tilted back and it looks like his head hit the turf pretty hard.

It happened at a not-quite-direct angle which caused Turner to roll slightly, and I stress slightly. It’s still well within the definition of the rule. It’s a stupid rule, but a rule nonetheless. To me, it’s a good hard football play, but I don’t have to worry about player safety the way the rule makers do. He definitely did not hit him in the head, and those people who are whining about targeting are either LSU homers/Bama haters, blind, or they just don’t know the rule. The fact that they didn’t even review it for targeting speaks volumes.

Yep, I called that out during the game. That was borderline make or break.

He intentionally meant to hit him hard. No doubt about it. Think it was in the flow of the game. A lot of big hits on both sides. I hate he got hurt. I understand your position though.
I don’t understand this - what part about “make their ass quit” do people not get? That won’t happen playing two- hand touch.
The job of every defender is to tackle so hard the ball carrier doesn’t want to get up - that’s a fine line between “doesn’t want to” and “can’t”, and no quality defender can make that distinction.
Penalty was called: was it deserved? I questioned the penalty against Ewers last year because I have seen that same situation not called.
“Tackling too hard” isn’t a legitimate statement IMO. It’s football - players get hurt. You don’t want the risk of getting hurt, even from a penalty play, don’t play the game.
