Bama Game Thread: Official PostGame Thread - Bama vs. UGA...

Does anyone here, after watching that mess, really think we deserve to be in the CFP?
Compared to other teams already in based off of schedule yes. Based off of our expectations no. Texas Tech has played no one. Indiana only Oregon. Texas A&M? Conference opponents were 18-46. Bama was 32-32.

That’s absolutely false. If we punt it out of there, Kirby is not going to do anything stupid and put the ball in jeopardy. Get a 3 and out a start again. Cole should’ve put his cleats on the 10 and if it’s over his head, let it go. Two horrible special teams plays tonight. Punt block, inexcusable.
Doing that to the defense wasn't fair either. Alabama ended up having a drive later with time on the clock. There's a big difference between going for it with a lot to gain and going for it with a lot to lose. That just gifted 7 points to the other team, it dramatically lowered Alabama's chances of winning.

Well yes obviously them scoring hurt our already very low chances of winning but we punt there they have good field position anyway and only need a field goal to finish the game.

Going for it there was the correct decision. The throw was the problem.

Likely won't happen but you know what likely will? When the CFP contract comes up for renewal the big stick will be swung.

Honestly, if the committee punishes Bama for losing the SECCG after their stance last year of not dropping a team due to the extra game results, I'd be surprised if it didn't accelerate the eventual outcome we all know is coming - the SEC and B1G form a super-conference and pull some select teams from the rest of the country and effectively kill the CFP as we know it.
I am ready for this to happen

The question really is… do we travel to Oxford, Eugene, college station, or Norman? Out of those choices I would prefer surprising Norman. I think we would beat aTm but it would be a crazy atmosphere and tough game

Moving forward--

Whether we get in the playoff or go to a bowl game, we need to start looking towards the future. Focus practices on the players coming back next year (doesn't look like Proctor really wants to be out there anyway). Coach Stallings did this his first year; we got pantsed in the bowl game, but things went pretty good from there.

Drop some serious NIL coin on an OL.

Drop some serious coin on a new OL coach.

CKD needs to have a LONG talk with Grubb about his approach to playcalling. Trade Send him with Sark, I don't know.
FIFY

I think the big question that still remains is the same question that was there when CKD was hired and that is "Can a pass-happy offensive philosophy from the West Coast work in the SEC?" There's no question that SEC defenses are much better than PAC-12 defenses were as Venables and Kirby/Schumann have shown.

With an OL that doesn't give up free rushes to the QB repeatedly.....yeah, it could work. Especially if we throw in adequate to good RB play and get rid of the frequent gimmick plays.

As I said, Kirby wasn’t going to put the ball in jeopardy. Three runs and a punt. Going for it there was STUPID.

The Poulan Weed Eater bowl is not played in Oxford, Eugene, College Station, or Norman.

We probably would have a good chance of winning the first game if we go to the playoffs. Deboer is clearly a good game planner when he has a couple weeks to prepare. Which is also why I think he needs to be more involved with the offense on game day

If it's 3rd and 2 or 4th and 2 there absolutely is a formation you can put on the field that will get you the 2 yards. Alot of times the defense knows what you are going to do and they just have to stop you. Tush push, 3OTs as TEs, OT at FB. Our HC and OC dont have the mentality to run the ball.

The thing about running the football is not about running when they expect you to pass. Running the football effectively is running when they know you are running.

That is where we have to start.

This must have been the first time you’ve seen him coach.
