Bama Game Thread: Official PostGame Thread - Bama vs. UMO...

The replays in the broadcast were some of the worst I have ever seen, on this and some other plays such as where it was unclear if a catch were made.
It really did take me back to Jefferson Pilot. I’m honestly not super sold on this new TV deal the SEC has- ABC has some junior league broadcasting and production outside of their one big primetime game.

So, just now joining the thread...

What are the general thought on that play that LT sacked Cook? I was with a group and none of us heard a whistle (on the broadcast). Did I miss something? Never did hear an explanation and the broadcasters were as confused as I was.

I'll try to go back through the thread but hoped somebody could enlighten me while I search. TIA!
It was a terrible call. That entire situation was on the refs and their own incompetence, and they just doubled down on it by flagging our guy with a PF.

These refs had several clown show moments in the game. They didn’t even place the ball on the correct side of the field out of the half! I’m just glad that Mizzou was too hapless to take advantage of any of those calls.

Coach Drinkwitz yelled some non-TF safe language at Alabama not once, but three times. It is on youtube (Search for "heated Eliah Drinkwitz").
Not a good look.

Thanks, RJ!

So that crew Saturday looked unfamiliar. Was that the crew that had to be added due to the conference expansion to 16 teams?

I thought the same. I wasn't aware Jefferson Pilot had the game :)
that is surprising since I thought ESPN had the best cameras since the time they were doing our games from 1993 onwards ... unless ABC is different entity for technology

Thats the problem, Milroe always needs work. His lack of development is holding the entire team back.

Its so frustrating how a coach gets married to one player (or coach) whether its Hurts or Milroe to the entire detriment of the team and over winning and losing. And they are willing to let other key people walk out the door because of it.
Or maybe - just maybe - the coaches (experts) know a bit more about the decisions they're making than you or I (amateurs) do.

Just a thought...

Anyone else experience the split screen during the SC game on the SEC network (I think that's what it was on)...unwatchable.

This is true, but sometimes coaches put guys in the field for other reasons.
100%

But the idea that Ty is definitely the better choice is a guess, at best. CKD has forgotten more about what Ty is capable of than all of us know combined. Therefore, the idea that coach is holding the team back by sticking with one particular player is a bit pretentious, IMO.

Agreed, but DeBoer doesn't know, either. No one knows. Can't know until he gets sufficient, meaningful playing time in real games.

Possibly.

But DeBoer might see enough in practice to know JM gives Bama a batter chance to win. WE don't know, it's his job to know. I trust that the expert knows more than we do. It might be that CKD is playing JM due to politics / threading the needle this season, or it might be that TS is clearly a step down from JM. I know many on here think they know TS is better, but they don't.

Different coaches view changing QB's differently. You've got people like Saban, who was very loyal to his starter, and long after people thought Hurts should have been pulled, he's still playing, we're still struggling on offense, and Tua is sitting there twiddling his thumbs. Whereas someone like Sarkisian would have long pulled him and put in Tua. Heck, Sark pulled Ewers in the UGA and inserted Manning just to try and change momentum. It didn't work, but that's not the point. Sarks "trigger" on pulling a QB is much quicker than Saban's. Saban would have NEVER done that in a regular season game. It took it being a title game and assistant coaches convincing him to do it. And it worked. But he was on the verge of letting the entire ship sink over one QB.

I have no idea what type of coach CKD is when it comes that. It seems he is very loyal to his starter, and there is nothing wrong with that. If that's who you are, then that's who you are. But personally, I would have been strategically giving series to Simpson post USCe game for two reasons. One, is to give Milroe some time on the sidelines to watch and send a subtle message that this job isn't yours just because you show up, and two, to send a message to the team that "I give opportunities when the starter isn't performing". It also gives Simpson a head start on next season much like Mac Jones got those end of the season reps in 2019 that definitely helped him in 2020.

I stopped thinking like that when Saban kept Tua on the bench for Hurts. Sometimes the coaches are wrong.
