I believe we are seeing JM as QB1 primarily because of his athleticism and escapability for a sometimes porous OL. But his talents dont mitigate the weaknesses of a porous OL they make them worse.
Also, Saban said that in the NIL era you have a problem when you pay the wrong guys too much money, youre stuck.
I think both of these are true. In fact, I think there may have been a holdover commitment from Saban to CKD with respect to JM that had to be honored. Which would explain why there really wasnt much a of QB competition in the spring.
Somwthing just doesnt sit right with the status that JM has had in the program relative to his resume and performance. It appeared last year he hijacked the lockerroom. I questioned why we recruited him the first place given we were moving away from the run first DT QBs in the mold of Hurts.
