Re: Okie Stat: I hate Bama thread
It amazes me the mentality these OSU fans/supporters have regarding them being more deserving of the #2 spot. All I read is "you had your shot and lost", "what happens if Bama wins the NC game, will they play a 3rd game to decide who's champ?". They reference Aubies 04 season and compare their situation with that. They also accuse Alabama of being in control of the media, SEC, and NCAA. Anyone that has followed Alabama football for any length of time can tell you that we're not the sweetheart of the media and the NCAA. That goes to N. Dame, Ohio State, Texas etc.
Rematches are not unheard of before either. It has occurred before with conference championships at least one time I know (Alabama-Florida) and I'm sure it has happened other times. If Florida would have won the SEC CG, but lost to us in the regular season, they still would have been the undisputed SEC champs.
They also forget the fact that when they pull stats from past seasons (regarding who was ranked where and who went to what bowl game) That they need to evaluate the whole body of teams and their records. Usually there is a reason why a team was ranked where they were. It's not a perfect system, and I'm a supporter of some form of playoff, but even with a playoff some teams will feel they got shafted.
This is a unique, unprecedented situation in which the two best teams in the country are not only in the same conference, but the same division of the same conference. They need to forget all that. They need to look at the facts. Alabama lost to #1 by 3 pts in overtime. A #1 team that had been putting up 30-50 pts a game on every opponent they faced until that game. OSU lost to an unranked team in double overtime. This was a team that was supposed to be a "schedule filler" game for them. They blew a 20+ point lead in the 3rd quarter and ultimately lost in double overtime. How can anybody with half a brain think they should be ranked ahead of UA?
Then the issue of not winning your conference. Well first, when the two best teams in the country are in the same division of the same conference, both can't be conference champ now can they? Gary Danielson said that issue was proposed several years ago at a BCS officials meeting. They brought the "don't win your conference, you don't play in the NC game" up for discussion. It was shot down before it was voted on. I wished I could find that interview, but it seems like he said the big 12 representatives were in disagreement of the rule (don't quote me).
Anyway they have a pretty lame and weak argument for their team. They claim they're boycotting the NC and without their fanbase they won't fill the seats...yada yada. Obviously they haven't been to Tuscaloosa on a Saturday afternoon at Bryant Denny and seen the full 100,000+ seats for a regular season game!! RTR
