Agreed, yet one of their MODERATORS on one of their boards is going on about some nonsense involving Darius Phelan(from Stevenson, I believe) and how we supposedly did something unethical in offering him a gray shirt that he didn't even take. I think they're just looking for excuses in advance of an expected loss.
As someone that follows the OU boards kind of closely over a period of time, here is summary of what a good portion of their fans think of us:
ESPN is in the tank for the SEC
SEC only has advantage with players/talent due to oversigning/gray-shirting
Nick scares them to death but is a scumbag that doesn't care about the players
Missouri and Texas AM are REALLY still Big 12 teams
The reason they lost their BCSCG's to LSU and UF was because they had to play them on SEC home turf
The reason they are not in the SEC is because they could not lower themselves to the same 'unethical' conduct as the current SEC schools do(again, gray-shirting, oversigning)
I am just one fan, but I know what you say is talked about on Sooner boards a lot, however I disagree with some of what is said. We are a proud program, and don't take losses very well. That being said here is my opinion on your statements:
About ESPN - I do think there is some bias towards the SEC. Not anything crazy, but it is in their interest for the SEC to succeed considering the contracts. Fox has a big contract with the Big 12, and so I think the bias goes both ways... Do I think ESPN is doing things behind the scenes to make it an unfair advantage? Absolutely not.
Gray shirting - I don't know enough about it to form a strong opinion. From what I've read, it's not allowed in Big 12. Does it create an advantage? I'm sure it does to some point, but if it's within the rules, go for it. Do I think it's the "only" reason the SEC is dominant. Not at all. If you look at the NFL you can see that there are a ton of players that are from SEC states. Therefore it seems that currently there is more talent in that part of the country. More times than not, college players stay close to home. It's my opinion that there are just better athletes currently in SEC country than everywhere else.
Nick does scare us. He is the best coach in college football and we did not want the best coach in college football going to our arch rival.
There's a lot of reasons we lost those two BCSCG's. I could go into analysis of those two games and how close they both really were but SEC home turf as one of them? Not so much.
The reason OU is not in the SEC is because OU would not go to another conference without OSU. I remember reading articles that there was an offer from SEC to bring A&M and us over, but OU insisted OSU come along. I'm not sure why OU wants to help OSU so much, but it kept us from the PAC as well and now we are stuck.
