Georgia’s 2018 nonconference football slate is nearly complete.
Murray State, an FCS program in Kentucky, will come to Sanford Stadium on Sept. 15, 2018, according to a contract signed by both schools in March and obtained in an open records request.
The Ohio Valley Conference school will be paid $500,000 for the game.
Georgia and Murray State’s only previous football meeting was a 49-0 Bulldogs win in 1945.
Murray State went 3-8 in 2015 under first-year coach Mitch Stewart.
He played for and later coached under Chris Hatcher. Georgia coach Kirby Smart was defensive coordinator under Hatcher at Valdosta State in 2001 when Stewart was on the roster.
Georgia announced this week it will also play Massachusetts during the 2018 season on Nov. 17. Georgia’s nonconference slate also includes the annual game with Georgia Tech.
UMass is getting $1.5 million, according to a game contract completed on April 12. The schools also agreed to meet in men’s basketball in Amherst, Mass., during the 2017-18 season and in Athens during the 2018-19 season, but there is no payout for either team for those games.
