One of Georgia’s best offensive lineman isn’t expected to even a miss a practice after sustaining a leg injury on Saturday.
Junior Isaiah Wynn should practice Monday afternoon, Kirby Smart said.
The first-year coach liked what he saw from a group that helped pave the way for 289 rushing yards Saturday, led by Nick Chubb’s 222. Smart, of course, wants to see more out of the guys in the trenches.
“We thought those guys played really hard as a unit,” Smart said Monday. “That’s the number one thing. We didn’t want to be complicated, we didn’t say you have to make every call right, that you’ve got to make every step right. We just said that you have to play physical and you have to play hard. They did that.”
Georgia ranks 104th nationally in sacks allowed before the Florida State-Ole Miss game Monday night.
The Bulldogs yielded four sacks in the 33-24 win Saturday over North Carolina.
“We’ve got a ways to go in that group to get to where we need to go,” Smart said. “We’ve got to play with more power. We’ve got to play with more consistency. We’ve got to sustain longer. They got a little tired during the third quarter. We’ve got to sustain longer.”
Georgia started Tyler Catalina at left tackle, Wynn at left guard, Brandon Kublanow at center, Lamont Gaillard at right guard and Greg Pyke at right tackle. Dyshon Sims also saw time at guard including one time in the third quarter when he was at left guard and Wynn was at left tackle.
“If we’re going to be a very good run team against the SEC defenses we’re going to play against, we’ve got to be more physical,” Smart said. “We’ve got to be able to move people. We’re not as big on the interior as teams that run the ball traditionally are.”
