If Georgia is going to play its football game at South Carolina Saturday as still scheduled, the Bulldogs want to be ready for the conditions they could experience.
To that end, quarterbacks Jacob Eason and Greyson Lambert practiced using wet balls on Tuessday afternoon during the media viewing period. It was dry with temperatures in the low 80s, but Hurricane Matthew may put the game in jeopardy for Saturday.
For now, the forecast as of Tuesday afternoon called for 100 percent rain Saturday in Columbia and then partly cloudy skies Saturday night with winds 10 to 20 miles per hour.
Georgia had plenty of rain during its preseason practices in August, but the weather has been better in recent weeks.
Staff members dipped footballs in buckets that Eason and Lambert used to throw to wide receivers in practice with offensive coordinator Jim Chaney and wide receivers coach James Coley running the drill.
"That's something that we always do about every two or three weeks," coach Kirby Smart said after practice. "Just in case we have to play in the rain. Of course, we had two scrimmages this year that we're in the rain. We try to throw wet balls because we may have to play with them."
