Opinions on our defense

I think the injuries to Lewis, Miller and Jennings have been blessings in disguise. Would obviously rather have Lewis and Miller healthy but it's really enabled some younger guys like Chris Allen and LaBryan Ray to get significant playing time and become contributors. I feel a lot better about our depth in the front 7 now and it's only going to get better as the younger guys play more and if we potentially get Miller or Lewis back for the SECCG or the playoffs..

If Evans continues to play like he did vs Arkansas then this defense is only going to get better. I think we had been missing a guy in the front 7 who can provide what he can. He isn't Foster but he can be special and I really think this is a sign that he is healthy and ready to make a splash. Just watch some of the clips Cole Cubelic was posting on Twitter. Dude is a monster.

The secondary has been really impressive for the most part. When Minkah and Ronnie are flying around I don't think I would want to be a QB or a WR. Averett has been good and Levi Wallace has been a fun surprise.

Overall I think this is one of the best defenses in the country but we haven't made as many game changing plays this year. I think that will improve as the defense continues to grow and I don't think we have seen the best performances from this unit yet.

Hard to complain much. Lacking depth a bit, which is to be expected, but our main guys play great! Still wish our DB's would get their heads around and not get the silly occasional PI penalty. But this defense is solid and getting better! RTR:biga2:

I thought our D got after the quarterback a lot better in this game than any of our previous ones this year. There were times when there were so many defensive players in Arkansas' backfield, it looked like we were on O going the other way!

It almost looked as if we were knocking each other out of the way for a sure sack.

I think the D line needs to continue improve...seems as if we don't blitz, there's not pressure...imo

agree about having to blitz, but the issue is more on the OLBs than the DL. last 2 seasons the DL generated 1.38 to 1.22 sacks per game, this year the DL is putting up 1.58/game so they are actually doing a little better, with most of that coming from Davis who's got 4.5 with no other DL having more than 1 (although I think Ray and Buggs will push their numbers up pretty quickly).

The OLBs the last two years put up 1.41 and 1.58 per game, and this year they are at 0.16/game. That's a HUGE drop, and realistically having Miller and Lewis out, and Jennings having missed a few games and seemingly just now getting close to 100% impacts that to a great degree. The OLB backups filled in as best they could, but just didn't generate the numbers we'd have expected from the starters.

As the young guys get more comfortable and react rather than think, I bet the interceptions will pick back up. I would love to see us go on a tear and start picking off more passes. But as a whole this D is awesome and have not allowed more than 23 points yet. And that was Colorado State. If we keep that up there is no reason we do not win every game.3 tds and a fg would win every game so far. I would hope we can do that on any defense we have left to play.

We already have 10 INTs so far. We've had at least one in each game thus far. That has not happened in any other season under Saban.

Wow, that number kind of sneaks up on you. I guess because so many of them have not been returned for touchdowns they are not as noticeable.

I love our defense but think it could be even better, especially at OLB, if not for the injuries. Hope that does not hurt us down the stretch. Maybe one or both of the players will be ready for the SEC champ game if we make it that far.

The defense is playing great but it would be nice to see some more NOT's with the interceptions we have so far. Those would certainly help us when we play LSU, Miss State, Auburn, and maybe Georgia. I hope the players can stay healthy with no injuries.

I will take the interceptions with pur offense getting the ball back over NOT. That gives the defense time to rest.

we don't really have any young guys on the back of the defense. Our top 6 DBs will likely all be gone next year, and our top 2 LB's will be also. We're very experienced on the back end of the defense this year.

Correct I guess I was thinking more of the pick 6 plays. Do not have near as many NOT's this year. Most of these great scores have been ourOFFENSE which is good, now imagine a few defensive TD's tossed on top :rolleye2:
