T-Mac - thought about you when I saw this in the paper this morning!

Ossie's BBQ restaurant will open in January at 3915 Government Blvd., in a former Arby's building accortding to Rudy Boutwell and his son-in-law, Chip Deupree. Boutwell's father, Ossie, opened the original Ossie's at that site in 1955, and expanded to three locations before closing in the 1980s.

Can't wait. When I was a teen-ager, shortly after the invention of fire, Ossie's, Johnny's and the Krystal on Government Street just east of Michigan were the loop for teen-agers cruising looking for ......whatever.

Ossie's had really good food, but their hamburgers were to die for. I've thought about them many, many times over the years, char-grilled and saturated in a killer sauce, even the bun seemed special. My mouth is watering just thinking of having another one soon.

When next in Mobile, I'll try to prove wrong novelist Thomas Wolfe, "You can't go home again." Ossie's was always popular.

So, TommyMac you and your ilk  were cruising my favorite drive-in restaurants trying to pickup girls. No wonder there were traffic jams.

Used to frequent them all....played a lot of rounds on the par 3 layout next to Ossie's too. Of course Government Blvd was just highway 90 back then.
