The Tide posted a seven-run fourth and a five-run fifth on the way to the run-rule victory
2/21/2024
TUSCALOOSA, AL – A pair of big innings powered Alabama baseball to a 12-0 win over Alabama State on Wednesday at Sewell-Thomas Stadium. With the victory, the Crimson Tide improves to 5-0 on the year.
Both teams were held scoreless through the first three innings before Alabama was able to break the stalemate. The Crimson Tide rallied for a seven-run fourth and a five-run fifth, all the offense needed in the run-rule victory.
The offense was led once again by TJ McCants and Bryce Eblin. McCants registered a six-RBI showing, finishing 2-for-3 with a grand slam, one run and a walk to go with his RBI. Eblin contributed three RBI of his own, part of a 2-for-3 effort that included a walk and two runs scored.
Alabama's pitching was stellar once again, posting its second shutout effort of the season. Zane Adams (1-0) got the start, giving up one hit and walking a pair while striking out two for the win. He was followed by a collection of three arms in Matthew Heiberger, Pierce George and Jansen Kenty who combined for four strikeouts to ensure the shutout victory.
From Head Coach Rob Vaughn
"This was a good night to get going, a good night for our fifth win. I know the score is a crooked number up there, but we just need to keep growing as a group. We did enough tonight, which was good, and it all started with Zane Adams on the mound. We got to see a flash of what he's capable of in that role and what he's going to be. There's a lot of things to be excited about with him and all of our young players."

How It Happened
- B4 | Will Hodo began the rally with a leadoff single before a walk to Evan Sleight and a single from William Hamiter loaded them up. One out later, Kameron Guangorena drew a walk to push the first run across. Back-to-back singles from Bryce Eblin and Gage Miller scored one apiece and kept them loaded for TJ McCants. The senior took full advantage of the situation, hammering a grand slam over the wall to cap the inning's scoring. (7-0, Alabama)
- B5 | The Tide loaded the bases with one down for Eblin, who sent a single to right to score a pair. After a hit-by-pitch to Miller loaded them up again, a passed ball scored one. In that same at-bat, McCants delivered a two-run single up the middle. (12-0, Alabama)
- Alabama has now won 14 straight games in the month of February with the last loss coming on Feb. 27, 2021.
- Eight of the nine starters contributed at least one run scored.
