You make the call!

I say pass interferance due to Irons being behind the receiver to come over his back to the ball.

Re: Pass Interferance or Good Coverage????

pass interfernce all the way. Irons is going for the ball as a secondary reaction. He had all #7 and no ball at the point of contact.:BigA:

Re: Pass Interferance or Good Coverage????

Auburn cheating..... while constant.... it is also always relevant. This picture came from SI and they were trying to use it as a reason that Irons was a 'steal' in the NFL Draft. I just thought it was funny that those boneheads would use a picture that is a better example of pass interferance than being one showing him as being a good player:biggrin2:

Re: Pass Interferance or Good Coverage????

It depends on when the picture was taken. Y'all are assuming the ball is coming towards the two of them. Perhaps it had already been knocked away. Do any of y'all remember that specific play?

I too was thinking the same thing, but also wondered how that picture would look if we had white helmets?:biggrin2:

It was pass intererence all the way. I am excited about this year's Iron Bowl. Hopefully Bama will end the streak of fingers.

You mean it wouldn't look like pass interference with a white helmet?!:rolleye2: Change those hlemets - now!:biggrin2: :BigA:

It doesn't depend on that at all.... there are two things that the picture tells you regardless of when/where the ball was thrown and/or the receivers/defenders position in relation. 1.) Irons is hitting/touching the receiver prior to the arrival of the ball; and 2.) Irons is not looking back towards the ball. It is either pass interferance or holding (Irons is preventing the receiver from raising his arms for the ball).

Although this does look like pass interference, it's impossible to tell from this still shot.
1) The ball could have already arrived, and bounced away from the players as Irons made a legal play to break up the pass.
2) It looks to me like Irons IS looking toward the ball, but he's obviously making a play on the receiver.

Like others have said, it's impossible to tell whether it's interference or not from that picture. If the pass was still in flight and hadn't gotten to the receiver yet then that's most definitely interference. OTOH, if the ball had already made contact with the receiver prior to the defender, it's definitely not interference.

One thing that's not up for debate is the fact that the barns DBs constantly get away with mugging the opposition's receivers. Irons was the leader of that group over the last three or so years.

Does it matter that Irons isn't even looking toward the ball? Knocked away or not, isn't there a caveat that says you have to be making a play at the ball, not just watching the player and guessing then the ball was to arrive?

It's easy to be a DB running with the receiver, never turn around and start flailing your arms when the players eyes light up.
