Agree completely. Also, Mac was a much more proven commodity than Ty Simpson is. Mac played well against Auburn and Michigan at the end of the 2019 season. Ty's only meaningful playing time is a half against USF. Ty might be great, and I hope so, but I want to see it. I feel the same way about Arch Manning.

Agreed. One was just a poor throw, and I'm sure Mac would say that. The other, bouncing off of the RB's butt cheek (Najee? I'm not sure), straight into the LB's hands was up there with Ed Scissum's fumble, the Kick Six, and the 1972 punts.

Mac had a great year; but having a WR room of Smitty, Waddle, Metchie, Bolden and an excellent offensive line really helped.

True, but the Ole Miss game that year showed me that he matured. That game was tough on the offense to score almost every possession and he delivered, even after Harris fumbled he kept himself in check, and when Ole Miss blinked he didn’t.

My fear is that Grubb is the real brains behind the offense and the driving force behind CKD's impressive record. The offense I saw last season without Grubb was atrocious and I'll chalk that up to the type of QB we had. But I do wonder if Grubb ever decided to move on (for good) could DeBoer still put a potent offense on the field?

I think DeBoer and Grubb are both very good on their own, but great when working together. Kind of like the Beatles. McCartney and Lennon were both very talented musicians. But the two of them working together created something really special.

I'm chalking up last year (without Grubb) to the type of QB we had. Though I really never like dumping the blame soley on one player when so many other coaches and players are involved. But I don't see Grubb, especially if he has success, being with DeBoer forever. I'd love to see DeBoer call a game himself just to see what he'd do. There have been a lot of coaches who've done that.

I hope you're right and it is like McCartney and Lennon and not Brooks N Dunn. Who together, was hall of fame worthy, but separate, just so so.

Has Grubb showed any interest in being a HC? I kind of get the feeling that he's a career OC. If that's the case, and if he has success at Bama, with his buddy DeBoer, why would he leave? He took a shot at the NFL last year and that didn't work out so well.

He actually did not come to Bama initially and interviewed for the Washington HC job but they gave it to the Arizona coach and he reported to Bama. Two weeks later the Seahawks hired him as OC.

TBF, I don't think DeBoer should be judged on last season given the situation that he walked into.

At Fresno as OC, CKD took an O that was ranked 12 in 2016 to 9th, then 4th, in 2017-18 before he left for Indiana as OC for one year, 2019, and led them to 3rd in the B10 in total O after being ranked 7th the year before, then 10th in 2020, 14th in 2021 after DeBoer. Don’t know if the difference was because of personnel or the OC or ???. (Sheridan replaced DeBoer as OC 😂.) So, CKD has succeeded without RG as OC.

Grubb was never the OC at Sioux Falls under DeBoer, but was on the staff as OL & RGC for 3 of DeBoer's 5 years as HC. As Fresno OC, he led them to a total offense ranking of 8, 1, 1 in 2019-2021. The last 2 years as CKD’s OC, who returned as HC in 2020. So, the more pertinent question might be how good is RG without CKD? He was mediocre under Tedford (4th to 8th as OC) and fired by Seattle in his only 2 years without DeBoer, but he’s been spectacular with him: 1 & 1 at FS, 1 & 3 at Wash in 2022-2023, then 16-0 and SEC's number 1 O in 2025 at Alabama.
