Should be interesting to see Johnson be able to show his offensive creativity while being able to actively recruit players that may not have been pass the admission standards set at Navy.

He'll win at SMU. I'm surprised he didn't wait for a bigger job to open up.

This is the best hire for SMU since Eric Dickerson and Craig James.

Great for SMU. Well that is a good move on Coach Johnson part. He will show the rest of the country just what coaching is all about. He is one great teacher and knows his X's and O's. :BigA:

I was under the impression he was headed to Nebraska. Neb just lost out on getting their running game back. Coach Johnson would have had the Big Red Machine moving and moving big. What a huge lose. :BigA:

Is SMU even considered lateral to Navy? In a way, it seems like a move down.

I think SMU has a lot of potential. Large recruiting base. Old tradition before the death penalty. Great academics. He could bring it back to the level with TCU at least. Then he'd be able to write his ticket.

A great hire by SMU. With Johnson they won't be automatic wins on opposing teams schedules. CPJ will be recruiting much better athletes than he's been accustomed to and he will probably feel like a kid in a candy store with all that Texas talent available.

I was hoping he would have got the Neb gig myself. He would have been a nice fit there IMO.

I agree. If he can even keep a fraction of the talent that comes through Dallas to stay home he'll be in pretty darn good shape, not to mention the rest of the state. C-USA isn't exactly a powerhouse either, he could have them in contention in a couple of years.
