Players only meeting?

Anybody else concerned that they’re having a players only meeting after the first game? All this stuff should’ve been hashed out in the spring, and in summer training. Hoping we see a clean game this weekend, and a dominant game to try to get the train back on the tracks. Rtr

I would be more concerned if they didn't care enough to take whatever steps they can to right the ship. The best time to plant a tree was 50 years ago, but there's no reason to not plant one today.

One of the players said they had players only meetings every week last year, so it may be something that is on a schedule. If they’re not getting on to each other on the field and sidelines, I doubt there’s any corrective action happening in the meetings.

They had players-only meetings last season, and it didn't do much good. Any "talk" that comes from this group is just wasted air space to me. They had their chances to prove it on the field last year and last Saturday and did nothing but crap their pants.

It's been my long-ago experience these players only meetings were used to challenge each other -- pointedly -- to raise the levels of each others' play ... to demand excellence ... to insist on better communication and teamwork on the field.

There were some pretty serious cases of lolly gagging/effort being displayed also. Players getting on each other for lack of effort is a good thing

There's a few things that I'd question about this 'players only meeting':

1. who called this meeting - was it a player or a coach?
2. what was the purpose
3. what was the outcome
4. will it matter

Definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.

They aren't suddenly going to pull out of the death spiral. The program is in trouble.

I am not optimistic about this team under CKD. I saw things last year that have continued into this year. Our talent level isn’t the problem in my opinion. I remember the years after CPB retired…it sort of feels like that to me. It’s hard to follow GOATS. I feel we will be somewhere between good and mediocre. Hopefully it won’t be like the drought after Stallings left.

Can a coach call a players only meeting? Asking for a friend.

You better believe it. They’d never admit it. But it’s common for a coach to go to the captains and tell them to have a players only meeting.
