Poll: Will we continue to play two QB's next week.

Will we still have open competition at QB next week or a bonafide CNS starter?

I, like most of the other posters, thought that the speed of the game was a little overwhelming to PS. He will get there, but imo isn't yet.

IMHO it is important to give P. Sims some playing time in case of injury. Yesterday the speed of the game over whelmed Phillip. His release was slow and he made some errors. This only verifies the value of playing time even in mop up duty. Unless A.J. is really off, most of Phillips playing time will be when the out come is unquestioned.

I think we have to go with AJ next week. When we get a lead where it's possible to do so, you put PS in. If PS was struggling with the speed of the game at home against Kent St.
(who does have a pretty good D), think of what it will be like for him next week at Penn St. I think AJ gives us the best chance to win at this point.

I think AJ gets the start against PSU. I have no idea when we see P. Sims, but I seem to remember that he puts a lot of time in studying film, the play book, etc. He will have plenty to look at from the KSU game--seeing things he didn't see/look for at the time. I will not be surprised to see a marked improvement in his performance the next time he gets in a game (most probably PSU?).

I think there was some separation yesterday between the two, McCarron showed better pocket presence and progressed through his reads better. I do think we'll continue to see two, although AJ may see more minutes in the split...

Based on the performance of each qb during the game, I think AJ has clearly won the starting spot. Barring injury, he'll continue to start for the remainder of the season. IMO Sims still hasn't brought his 'game' up to collegiate speed. This is not high school, and you can't sit back in the pocket and wait for receivers to get open. If he waited so long to release the ball that Kent State was able to get to him, SEC defenders will have him eating dirt all day long.
Frankly, at this point in the season, I'm surprised we're even having this discussion.[/QUOTE]

Me too.

I think AJ will start and Sims will get plenty of snaps. I also think we will know who 1 and 2 are by next Sunday.

I agree. It's hard to get a good read after Saturday. AJ definitely had a better game but it will be interesting to see how PS performs now that he has game experience and sees how much faster the college game is. It's one thing to practice but another to be in a game and getting hit.

I think if we blow the score up early, we'll see PS.

If it's tight, we'll probably see mainly / only AJ.

I believe PS has more 'upside' than AJ, but right now AJ has it more together overall...

I have a feeling that Saban will stick with both QBs through the N. Texas game. After that game, he should have seen enough from one or the other to decide a starter. I agree that AJ had the best game by far against KSU, but Saban said he wasn't going to pull either one out of the game because of a mistake. So maybe that statement goes beyond just one game. Chances are that Phillip will play better than AJ the next game, who knows.

I think both will play against PSU although not like they did this week. One thing to remember is this was PS first game action. I think after North Texas we will have a starter named.

I don't think we will see a 2 QB system moving forward. I think AJ has done enough to be the starter. To those comparing this to the 2 QB system under DuBose, this ain't even close to being the same thing.

It's not a two QB system. It's getting two QBs ready to play because that OL is gonna get somebody killed.

Having continuity on the OL involves the signal caller as well. The OL is going to be fine. Did you have a complaint when they led AL down the field and scored three quick tds and gave AJ plenty of time in the pocket? Is your complaint against n OL that helped the running game get 183 yds against the 4th ranked run defense last year who returned all their starters? Considering what was being asked of them I thought they did fine. They showed the coaches which packages are sound and which should be avoided. Have faith my friend.

The OL that I saw was not lacking in size or speed. It was the missed assignments and bad techniques. Lots of them by everybody. That's coaching and fixable. I just hope it's soon. I'm good.
