When they were BLM protests, they were characterized as riots even though more than 95% of those protests were completely peaceful.

These are not protests - these are riots, with an intent to destroy property and harm individuals with differing political opinions at the outset.

Wonder how brave they are one on one...
While of course there are nutjobs out there. The "fine folks on all sides" of this trying to start a civil war do not realize that they might try, but most of us aren't going to take up arms against one another.
Grandad isn't taking aim at his Biden voting grandkids that live in the next town.
I'm not shooting anyone because they voted differently.
And secession? So my husband would stay in Alabama because he voted one way, and I get shipped off to New Hampshire because I voted another? Preposterous. I hate snow anyway.

She's come a long way since she first started...which is the sign of a mature, thinking person. She's also not afraid of ANYONE. Her tweets are pretty special...
I won't say I'm a "fan" because there's very few religious folks who tweet that I could ever stay a "fan" of that person, regardless of their particular bent. But I'm just glad SOMEONE somewhere is saying SOMETHING so that some folks can see "we're not ALL like that."

Here's her latest tweet:

I do not believe these are days for mincing words. I’m 63 1/2 years old & I have never seen anything in these United States of America I found more astonishingly seductive & dangerous to the saints of God than Trumpism. This Christian nationalism is not of God. Move back from it.

I could not agree more...

Unless our justice department gets serious about arresting these people and charging them with domestic terrorism, this will only get worse. America is still a banana republic. Let's hope Biden has the courage to do what is needed on 1/20.

Something has always rubbed me the wrong way about Crenshaw.

Fundie Trumpie women will be burning her books.

If you are the cause of a police escort for the people who are literally voting for president (only 538 of us actually do that) you are guilty of voter intimidation.

DW - Deutsche Welle released this report this morning on the emergence of Trumpism in US politics including a discussion with Rick Wilson - Lincoln Project on his projection of US politics from Biden forward. Not a very hopeful outlook!

From Dean Randy Hollerith and Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde:

The racist and religious overtones surrounding the effort to discredit the presidential election were on ugly display in downtown Washington on Saturday night, just blocks from the White House.

After a pro-Trump rally that aimed to overturn the will of the people in the presidential election, demonstrators and members of the Proud Boys ripped down Black Lives Matter banners outside two historically Black congregations, Asbury United Methodist Church and Metropolitan AME Church. In a chilling scene, one was set on fire as crowds chanted profanities.

We reject the version of Christianity that seeks to provide a mantle of spiritual authority to the poison of White nationalism. Religious leaders who bless these rallies, or lend their voice to the effort to subvert democracy, make a mockery of our faith. What we are witnessing is nothing less than idolatry--the worship of someone other than God as though he were God.

The blatant racism of this lost cause is alarming. The senior pastor of Asbury United Methodist Church was right to call the burning of her church’s banner a new version of cross burnings. White hoods have given way to black-and-gold militarism. Such hatred grieves the very heart of God, and we cannot turn a blind eye to such displays of white supremacy.

We believe that Black Lives Matter because Black lives matter to God. The Proud Boys and their hatred are not welcome here.

For us at Washington National Cathedral and throughout the Episcopal Diocese of Washington, this is the season of Advent, in which we wait in expectation for the birth of Jesus, the Prince of Peace. This we know: God’s Kingdom is built with open hearts, not clenched fists. Its streets are paved with the living stones of love and justice. Racism and hatred have no place in God’s Kingdom, and we will grant them no home in our city.
The Right Rev. Mariann Edgar Budde

Where ever there's BBQ, Bourbon & Football
Our pastor YEARS ago said politics, specifically political parties, have become the god of too many people who call themselves Christians. It's become its own religion. He used an example regarding recipes/food that is so simple yet so true. He said there are a lot of recipes/foods that share some of the same ingredients, but are used to make totally different foods/dishes. That just because you use salt in one dish doesn't mean it's the same thing as the dish you used salt in another dish. In the same way, just because a political party has a mutual belief or beliefs that Christianity does, doesn't mean that party is Christian or is "of God". Yet here we are...

Matthew 7:15-20
“Beware of false prophets who come disguised as harmless sheep but are really vicious wolves. You can identify them by their fruit, that is, by the way they act. Can you pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? A good tree produces good fruit, and a bad tree produces bad fruit. A good tree can’t produce bad fruit, and a bad tree can’t produce good fruit. So every tree that does not produce good fruit is chopped down and thrown into the fire. Yes, just as you can identify a tree by its fruit, so you can identify people by their actions.
