Post season thread...

Not so much schadenfreude but a showing of Gottfraud's true postseason colors that almost match Grant's, as Duke drubbed him in the ACC tournament by 25 - and in so doing just might've set up a "dream" (nightmare) NIT matchup: NC State vs. 'Bama...

State is in the tournament, and sad as it is to say, there is no longer any comparison to be made about the post-season record of the former coach and our current one.

We won't be invited to the NIT......there are 32 teams ahead of us. We have 17 Div I wins on a 30 game schedule.....that's sad

Mama said, "If you don't have anything good to say about anybody, then don't say it!" As for our players, I hope that graduating seniors are able to reach whatever professional goal that they set in life or even continue their schooling to reach it! Let's hope for a more successful season next year! RTR That's all I have to say about that!

Not sure you can make such a blanket statement, given Grant's success in the NIT (hey, that's a post-season record too, as would presumably be playing in conference tournaments).

As for any comparison between coaches or coaching, all that need be said was when I flipped on the Duke-NC State game, Trevor Lacey was making a wild drive into the maw of Duke's defense and when it converged on him, the ball suddenly and through Lacey's own volition, was going backward, across the midcourt line - and the announcer commenting "Another NC State turnover." As the score at that time was 14-3, the outcome already was beyond any scintilla of doubt: Down goes a Gottfraud team again in a game that means something. And you gotta admit, even if grudgingly, as for games that mean something, there's definitely a parallel universe with Grant and that conspicuously golden 1-and-50 record of his against 'Bama opponents ranked any higher than, what, 47th.

The sad thing is the athletic administration apparently could care less about the fans, the people who pay for the tickets. I heard an interesting comment from my dentist of all people. He has had season tix for 30 years and is fairly plugged into the team. He said that the administration felt that they didn't have to have fans there because the revenue from the SEC network made up for it. That is why we agreed to so many 8pm midweek games. They were willing to sacrifice attendance for cash.

Why do we keep bringing CMG up in conversation? His undoing was through his own actions.

That is just pathetic if true.

I was afraid that was the story when the financial information came out not long ago. I guess it's going to take reaching new lows, or returning to the dark days of the 60's before CM was hired, to get things to change. :frown:

So now the athletic dept.'s following the NASCAR model? - makes sense in supporting Grant's continued presence at 'Bama. How so? Follow this: A NASCAR track with which I have, shall we say, great familiarity has essentially halved its seating capacity in the last 3-4 years as NASCAR's attendance waned - OK, fallen off precipitously. (Look at all the tight shots of the track - which cover for "crowd shots" when there are only empty grandstands.) Anyhow, NASCAR's hemorrhaging its fan base - but. But. NASCAR's still on cruise control, financially, what with the network TV money coming in. And that's where it lines up with Grant on the sideline for 'Bama - he's telegenic, he's got salary at least partly funded by way of the SEC Network deal, why worry about the product he's putting on the floor - or the fans he's not putting in the seats? That's all coincidental to pretty pictures and ESPN paying handsomely to air them. To further the NASCAR analogy, Grant may be starting near the rear of the field every week and finishing further back, but looks like he's got a race exemption to keep "driving"...

Heard Jim Calhoun on Mike and Mike this morning. He said one reason basketball isn't as entertaining today is because less teams have more experienced players, which got me thinking to the players Grant lost via transfer or just not returning. Look at what the team should have been based on recruiting and compare it to what the team actually was. Before dismissing some of the players, remember a guy like Carl Engstrom would be a redshirt senior, and Devonta Pollard would be a junior.

TW, I don't want Mark Gottfried coaching my team ever again. But State has played one of the toughest schedules in the country, has improved throughout the year and will be far better next year. Let's give Gottfried his due. Meanwhile, TL, despite playing against much better competition and coaching night in, night out, has startingly exceeded his performance at Alabama. Something doesn't add up.

If Mal was still the AD, CAG would have been looking for work after last year.
This is very probably true. The evidence has mounted that CBB just doesn't want to be the one, as interim AD, to pull the trigger and make a very important hire. Unfortunately, having no Prez and no permanent AD certainly would reduce the chances of making a decent hire right now...

Just trying to imagine the atmosphere surrounding Bama basketball next season with Grant still in charge. And that looks like what will happen here. I feel we are in unchartered waters -it appears that the PTB's really do not care about basketball success as long as the money continues to flow in ( because of football and Tide Pride) and the program is not in any type of trouble with the NCAA. And that is just sad- we the fans completely lose out and our voices go completely unheard.

Hiring a basketball coach is simply not what Bill Battle signed up for here. Nevermind that virtually every other team in the SEC would have let Grant go after the last 2 seasons.

Everything the administration does says they do not care about the students or the long time fans. ( especially the student seating arrangement). They allow Grant to not promote himself or the program. I feel they would almost prefer to let him coach next season with the same results than pay him his $ 4 million severance for not getting the job done. Maybe I am wrong.

Let's be very clear- I think things will get even worse next year- Auburn and Pearl will cheat their selves into relevance and will begin beating Alabama pretty soon. LSU and Texas A& M are recruiting lights out and will distance themselves further. I can honestly not point to anything ( recruiting, marketing, coaching) that says better days are ahead- and I have never really felt that way in the 40 years of supporting and watching Tide basketball.

This program is on life support. Maybe Grant would be happier somewhere else- I do not know. I am also hearing some rumors about possible transfers- again. Most notably Hale and Tarrant.

Not much left to say.

Why would kids want to play in a half-empty coliseum? Have you ever thought that might be why they are transfering? I know football is king at Alabama and I am one of the biggest football fans. But even when Shula was there we 9 times out of 10 sold out the stadium and we had several losing seasons while he was there.

The kids on the basketball team deserve the fans that can be there to be there supporting them. I wish I could be, but I am four hours away and I work so unless it is on a Saturday, I can't come.

Anyway that's ,my two cents for whatever it is worth.
