I believe if we get him and Carver from Mississippi State I believe we are done at wr, Williams is the alpha dog and we don't need someone coming in who wants to be the man, we need guys who will accept their roles and a fit for CKD offense
Remember we once had Calvin Ridley, Devonta Smith, Jerry Jeudy and Henry Ruggs on the roster at the same time, with Foster and Sims as well.

The next year it was Smith, Jeudy, Ruggs. Lost a Ridley, gained a Waddle.

Then we had those 4, plus Metchie.

teams who spread the ball around don't have to have a single Alpha cause everyone's getting their touches. While we might never have that depth of talent we had for that run, with the right focus and approach we should definitely have room for more than just 1-2 top level guys to produce.

Having room does not mean that we will have the money.
Top WRs cost $$$$ NIL, and it is not clear how many we can afford.

CKD was able to put up unreal numbers with Rome Odunze, Ja’Lynn Polk, and Jalen McMillan. That group is nothing to wave a stick at but I think we can acquire a similar corps.

His big numbers were not against SEC defenses. There is a difference.
Penix threw for 430 yards in a 37-31 win over Texas. Odunze caught a pedestrian 125 yards and Polk was able to get a measly 122 yards. That offense would have fared just fine in the SEC last year...

Texas pass defense was 125th last year and allowed 3561 yards (counting over 14 games). “https://cfbstats.com/2023/leader/national/team/defense/split01/category10/sort05.html"

There were only 8 teams in the country that have allowed more passing yards than Texas (and none in the SEC)

We can pencil whip this as much as you like but for the sake of time I think we can both agree on...

SEC Defense > PAC 12 Defense

We should also be able to agree that Washington's offense last year was exceptional and would have been successful against most any opponent.

Germie should be back for his senior year. He was looking good the last half of the season. Cole Adams should be mended up. And Jalen Hale may be back, hopefully at 100%. He looked real good last year. And four who will be sophomores. Two more will give us 9 WRs. Unless more portal out.

A good/great offense will always be at an advantage no matter their conference affiliation.

Doesn't mean a defense can't slow them down, but I think modern college football is offensive oriented. I know we bemoaned P. Gol*ing, but in most of those years we had an offense that could simply score more points than our opponents.

That may not sound like "old school Bama football" but we will never revisit that era in the modern age of offensive football.

Let's let Deboer do his thing. We'll be explosive....probably starting next year!

The old man said it himself a couple years ago...defense no longer wins championships.

I know that was hard for him to admit, but it is what it is.

I know it kills him but he also knows it is because the rules have been changed to ensure defense doesn't win championships. I bet that eats at him in his sleep.

Any transfers yet other than special teams? I see a lot out but nothing of note in really.

We haven't gotten much of anything in wrt to transfers. But we've had plenty go out. We need to start getting some in or we're going to be on the outside looking in. I really want the kid from Miami. 6'4 201 lb wr.
That’s what I was seeing but hoped I missed something. Seems like WR, DB and DL are in a little trouble plus oline maybe. I know some young guys are here but proven guys and depth are lacking. I see some talk up the wrs we have and stuff but a lot is crimson glasses. I’ll trust staff for now but struggling this transfer market more than expected at the moment.

I think a lot of kids jumped into the portal to see what they could get and if they didn't like it would portal back to their original team, if that option was available. In other words, there's a lot of window shopping going on right now.

I think there was a post on another Alabama website that highlighted other SEC teams that have had a ton of outgoings, and not a ton incoming - UGA, OU, LSU were mentioned. It's not limited to Alabama, if that's what you're worried about. It's also trended that way since portal was originally opened, so the issue goes back to CNS' time. CNS' approach was to only target players in positions of need that could start immediately. CKD may be having the same strategy, but there are lots of backups leaving too, so he may also be targeting backups as well.
