Prayers for Friends, Plz - Grandson hanged himself

Just heard this morning that some dear friends & mentors of mrs. exiled's & mine just found out that their 16-yo grandson hanged himself. Don't know details except that the young man had apparently gotten himself in trouble @ home and didn't respond well (obviously).

Mercifully, I cannot even begin to imagine where they & their family are right now.

Buddy- I will pray for the family.

This is extremely upsetting to me as this is the way my dad committed suicide. There are many people who are insensitive to people who commit suicide and their family's. I, for one, have experienced it first hand. The loved one's left behind are left beind questioning everything wondering if they could have done something to have changed the outcome while dealing with cold people asking dumb questions and making dumb comments.

After nearly 5 years, I haven't accepted my dad's death but I just deal with it. I have my days but I deal with it. There is nothing anyone can say to the family to comfort them other than to tell them that you and others will pray for them.

I leave with this, never judge another without first walking in the shoes first because you never know what someone is thinking. I never in my life would have thought my dad would have committed suicide.

My prayers for family and friends. This is one of those deaths that shatters my heart - like others have said it leaves those left behind questioning them self over and over. Sadly there are no answers.

BGoose, I thought of you almost immediately after hearing of this. Thanks for transparently sharing your hard- and tragically-won wisdom, amigo.

To quote a friend here in town, I have read the biblical qualifications for throwing stones, and am keenly aware that I am very much unqualified to do so. I'm gonna follow your advice, Goose, & just continue to pray & love. I did tell our friends (the grandparents) that I would not attempt to offer any magic words of comfort, for there are none.

My experience in multiple such situations is that the most profound ministerial words I have to offer are these: "I'm so sorry"..."I love you"..."I'm praying for you"...That's it.

Thanks again to all. These are some *choice* folks, I assure you.

Thanks exiled and Jon. Suicide is increasing into today's world rapidly. I sometimes still find my self thinking I am living a dream that turns into a nightmare.

Words will never be enough for anyone that has experienced a loved one's suicide. All I do is pray for them and myself because normally it stirs up memories of that night in October 2005.

so very sad. I have had 7 family members or friends commit suicide in my 37 years on this Earth. The first was a friend in HS. The latest was a buddy who just went through a nasty divorce and custody battle.

I have been forced to learn about mental illness. Please take it seriously, and pray pray pray.
