the biggest problem I see with the SEC and B1G breaking off and forming a so-called Super Conference is teams like Rutgers, Purdue, Northwestern, Maryland, Miss state, Vandy, and some other traditionally weak teams are in the upper tier league. Try and keep them out and the lawsuits start and then the other lesser conferences join the lawsuits because they think they belong too.
Looking at the teams to get to 40 each....you'd also have to pull up some lower tier schools. Like UCF, USF, Rice, Tulane, etc. You'd have to pull the top teams from the AAC and include Oregon State and Washington State back with their old buddies.

Doesn't matter though....because you're absolutely right.....lawsuits will kill it all.

They're on the boat. They can stay. The real issue is who are you going to target from the other leagues? There has to be enough in order to keep the lawsuits at bay. You may have to take some worthless teams like Boise to keep the outcry dampened.

And therein lies the root of this issue. The fact that Division 1 ever allowed these small time schools to have any voice whatsoever. There was a movement for separation years ago which gave us D1A and D1AA, which turned into the FBS/FCS nonsense we see today. But there should have been a total separation. Instead, they did that half measure and then allowed the barriers to move from 1AA to 1A to basically crumble into nothing.

So now Jacksonville State, Sam Houston State, and Kennesaw State are FBS teams??? Balderdash.

I'm even for doing something like European soccer. Lowest 4 winning percentages from each conference get relegated to the lower tier football group. Highest 4 of the lower tier get promoted to the big time.

But that's probably a road too far.
That would make a few Rivalry games even more crazy.

Can you imagine how insane JH would be with AU fighting to escape being relegated to a G5 league?

I think it’s would be interesting to maybe try something like this down the road.

In the past I might have not even entertained it but watching a few Documentary series on English Football/Soccer has helped me to understand their Promotion/Relegation system.

It would probably create the hooligan American though…lol

Those trees in AU would need security *half Blue font?*

I'm good with the automatic bids for conference champions and all seeding determined by actual rankings and sticking with 12 teams. I have confidence that the top 7 teams will include all of the "right teams". Last season had maybe the longest list of teams that might fit in the group of right teams; Georgia #6 was one and maybe #7 Ohio State.

I expect there will always be one or more conference champions ranked in the top 5, so the committee would actually have more than 7 opportunities in the rankings to ensure the right teams are in the playoff. This season has the right teams in the playoff but seeding is bogus.

I'd rather just bring in all the P4 teams, and leave the G5 to create their own league. It would greatly benefit them to create their own league with their own champion, as opposed to continuing to pretend like they're on the same level as the P4. Then those schools would actually have a shot at a championship. It's what's best for everyone.

I think they need to find a plan to do away with conferences. The way things stand now all the worthy playoff teams are in the Big 10 and SEC so if the CFP committee just picks playoff teams from those 2 conferences the ACC and Big 12 will cry foul and demand representation in the playoff. Then we are stuck in the same situation as now where the committee tries to include all conferences and ends up with some unworthy teams. Without conferences they could also give byes to the Top 4 ranked teams without much controversy.
