no clue where the kid's headed, but if he spurns both Oklahoma and us for Indiana, then you know we'll never hear the end of this one from the rivals. This one will sting.

I don't care if I hear it from AUBARN, if we beat them by 30 this year, and follow that up with a National Title, all we will have to say is 14. Even if we fall a little short of that 14, 13 still sounds better than DOS!

You mean 13 sounds better than 2* ;)

top QB in the nation...going to Indiana...yes INDIANA...over Oklahoma AND Bama...what's not there to understand about how that would sting??

and from the sounds of it, we might be starting to trail with Winston, too. of course it's going to sting.
If Kiel wants to stay close to home (sounds like he wants to be somewhat close), I understand the decision. Add the fact that his brother is on the team; I can see it. In 2010, BYU got the nation's top QB. Does that make sense to you? Doesn't to me, but he made the decision he felt was best. It doesn't make sense to us as fans, but players make the one they want to make, whether it makes sense or not.

Re: Winston. Where are you hearing that? Last I saw we were ok with him.

If the kid doesn't want to compete against the best, in *U's case the best money can buy, then so be it. I don't want a QB thats afraid of pressure.

oh i understand that if it's the best decision for him and his family then i would have no problem at all with his choice. i'm just saying that having Indiana steal away the top QB from us and Oklahoma would hurt a little bit. one player doesn't make or break this class, but having him on board would certainly be a big time get.

I had seen the Winston comment on ESPN a week or so back on the 'Rumors' section. Could be just that, but i just made a mental note of it.

Winston is from Birmingham and I saw a local sports TV spot on him this week and he said his top three are AL, FSU and LSU and he said AL and FSU are recruiting him the hardest right now. I think what you saw was a rumor. Regarding Kiel, I still feel good we will get his committment and don't think Indiana will since he will compete against his brother and it's Indiana.

My point about competing against your brother is very valid here. Arie and Cyrus? There's 5 OL on the field at one time and each of them can play up to 4 of those spots with little training so they didn't come to the same school worried about taking each other's spot. If brothers were both DBs same scenerio, usually 4 or more DBs on the field at once. How many QBs you see on the field at once. How many QBs getting playing time in a game unless it's a blowout or injury. I don't see Gunner letting his older brother feel good about himself by becoming a QB at a university and then having his little brother take his spot on the first week. I still believe that this is a two horse race between UA and OU

Jake Heaps is Mormon though. That was one of the bigger reasons why he chose BYU. That, and the very QB friendly offense that BYU has, and is known for. Plus, BYU has pretty solid facilities and Provo, Utah is a beautiful setting for college football.

Everyone seems to jump the gun and assumes that because he delayed his announcement that it was soley because he was rethinking. Which by the way does not mean if he would have announced it would have been for UA. But alot of specualtion, but truth be told he has stated he will not make a big deal about his announcment and will only notify the coaches by phone once he announces. Once it leaked about June 12th he postponed it because again he does not want the hoopla surrounding it that so many recruits want.

Kiel had planned to make his college announcement June 12 at a football camp Drew was putting on for elementary-age kids. When word leaked out, Kiel postponed the announcement.

"I didn't want to make it a big thing," he said. "I didn't want to make it all about me. So I decided to hold off. (The decision) will probably be some time this month. I don't know a date. Whenever I feel it in my gut, I'm probably going to make that decision. I'll let my teammates, family and friends know. By then, I'm sure it will get out."
Columbus East's Gunner Kiel keeps recruitment low key - The Indianapolis Star & HighSchoolSports.net

A very good read on him and I wish more were like him.

guy choosing to play in state at an AQ school, not that much to be embarrassed about. it happens, we got JJ away from oklahoma and being the in state had a lot to do with it, and we werent setting the world on fire in those days. We also regularly lose guy to USCe who isnt really a powerhouse by any means.

starting at a BCS school from day one in his home state has a lot of appeal and could make him a hometown hero.

That said i think that its bama or ou but what do i know.

I guess the closest thing I could think of with Kiel going to Indiana was Archie Manning being drafted by the Saints back in the early 1970s. Archie was a pretty athletic QB but God bless him, he spent almost his entire career running for his life and took a LOT of vicious licks because the Saints were so terrible. Same deal with Kiel. Yeah, Indiana is in the Big Ten and it's close to home but he's going to have run like heck most of the time for his life and endure a lot of losing.
