Great pick-up. He's a 4 star according to one of the services, and he also participated in the Elite 11 QB camp this past summer, so he must be pretty good. Never lost a game as a starter on the HS level in two years, 19-0. Only knock on him is that he is 6'1"

I'm happy for him. Now I got to check on me. It's gonna take a while. We don't know nothing about him. Wins games though. Give him that.

Welcome Mr Ely. RTR

This sort of reminds me of the QB last year that was going to Tulane that came out of nowhere. I also have even more respect for the Mod at ThaRinger for his sources. He called it last night.

BTW Ely if you read this please tell J Wilder that you will hnad off the ball to him if he comes to UA as much as he likes.;)

I am very surprised about this one. I had pretty much resigned to the fact that Alabama would wait until the 2012 class to sign a QB. However, I'm happy to have Ely aboard.

"I want to win football games." - Phillip Ely

I'm at Plant right now (with friend on Plant staff). He told me to come down today, because he thought I would like seeing the press conference.:) I am so glad I did. Just told Phillip "Roll Tide." Great kid and a awesome pickup by Coach.

When did our recruitment of Phillip begin?? I noticed on rivals we aren't even listed as one of his prospective schools.
Ely has been interested in Bama for a while and he has visited Bama and shown interest in them throughout the process. You are right, he did not list Bama among his favorites but that changed obviously. Reportedly he did not receive the Bama offer until just the last couple of weeks.

ANDREW BONE: Alabama lands quarterback | TideSports.com
Phillip Ely, Scout.com three-star quarterback from Plant High School in Tampa, Fla., announced a surprise commitment Wednesday afternoon to the University of Alabama. The Tide has not been mentioned as a contender throughout the recruiting process, but it was known he had serious interest in the Tide.

The Alabama coaching staff decided to offer Ely a scholarship a couple of weeks ago. He kept things very quiet about the offer from the national champions and many felt like Notre Dame was his school of choice.
