Question about officials

First of all, which crew is officiating this weekend. Second, I would like to know our win loss record when the crew that officiated the South Carolina game is on duty( Rocky Goode?). Third, I would like to know how many of our penalties are pre-snap penalties(offsides, etc.) and how many are judgement calls. My reasoning for all this is that if we have few pre snap penalties and most of the penalties are judgement calls( holding, etc. ) it shows a level of inconsistency. I Mean that an undisciplined team will jump offsides, have illegal motion, etc. as well as hold etc. . . I am not a conspiracy advocate , but the latest numbers concerning the plus minus calls ( Ut +21: the next closest Miss State +6; and we at the bottom at -13 is ridiculous) I believe that as fans we have an obligation to "inform" the SEC office and bring these things to their attention. The SEC refs are only penalized on "Bad" calls not "no Calls". I believe that this leads to a loophole for corruption that needs to be pointed out. I believe that SEC officials are being paid to not make calls against certain teams. I challenge anyone to prove me wrong. I know that no one wants to believe this( because it would soil what we would like to believe is a great game) but I have seen too many blown calls and no calls to believe in coincidence any more. Does anyone remember the Hawaii game from two years ago? Arkansas has only one penalty called ( it declined). I really believe that SEC refs are corrupt! Someone please prove me wrong!

I would be an advocate of having "NCAA" officals instead of "Conference" officials...

I think that holds them more accountable and holds them all to the same standard of officiating...

For some reason, Big XII and Pac-10 officials seem to do a very good job, where SEC and Big XI officials just flat out suck...

What would y'all think of National officials instead of conference officials?

I am sure you would be in favor of "ncaa" officials.

I've already said that the officials should be from out-of-conference. It doesn't make sense having "some of oyur own" to officate a game. If an official is a graduate or God forbid, even a former player for a conference team, how are they going to rule without bias?

Even when I was a kid, I never thought having the officials from a conference to officiate that conference's games. It doesn't make sense. It's a Pandora's Box for incorrect calls.

i believe that out of conference officials would be more fair.....

but I also believe that officials should be held accountable for " no Calls" as well as blown calls. I mean calls that are obvious and not called. I would be in favor of a grading system for the officials. And a panel of former officials (voted on by the member institutions to grade and discipline them).

Oh man how about last week's USM game. The Houston player takes a step out of the end zone then steps back in and kneels the ball on a kickoff. That is a safety. Then USM's winning TD catch the receiver had a foot out of bounds.

I've really been wanting that the more I watch these awful refs who will stare at a penalty being done by one team and turn a blind eye but then the other teams does it there goes 15 yards!!!!! Cough ucheat Cough!

Not too sure that you will find support for anything dealing w/ncaa here!

:BigA:

Does anyone have the Email to the SEC office...

I think that we should start emailing now with the evidence in the disparity in calls. It may do no good but the team cannot do it for fear of retaliation, and at least they will know that we are aware of the injustice. I do not mean to email obnoxious drivel, but our real concerns over what is happening. May not help this week but who knows down the road.

I agree with you, TiM...

If I'm not mistaken, the SEC (and probably every other league) has a policy that an official that attended or has ties to a school cannot officiate a game in which that team is playing...

But it could come into play if the outcome of another game affects his school...

That is why I'm in favor of "national" refs instead of "conference" refs

Well, Tennessee...

we've run into the problem as far distant as State College, PA. I've been in favor of national officials for a long time. Usually, the argument made is that of travel time and expense, etc. IMO, the real problem is the GOB problem. Each conference has its own "club" of officials, who've worked their ways up from HS, networking with friends who are already doing college games. National zebras would require a new mechanism, from the top down, to dissolve these conference ties. Hard to do...

Tennessee,
That is a great suggestion, but we already know that SEC refs are totally impartial. The facts speak for themselves. Check out the ranking for SEC Opponent Penalties at http://www.secsports.com/new/sports/fbc/04stats/confldrs.htm
It is only a coincidence that Bama is last in the conference with opponents only being penalized 30.5 yards per game, and the Viles are first in the conference with opponents being penalized 70.4 yards per game. And it is really a coincidence that most of the penalties against the Vile opponents came at crucial points in the game when it would hurt them the most.

The stats hold the truth in this what they call "officiating".These calls on Bama and lack there of against opponents has been going on for a while now and its time something be done about it.

SEC penalty stats through last weekend. Borrowed from autigers.com

TEN 26 47 21
MSU 31 37 6
VAN 27 32 5
KEN 33 38 5
ARK 27 31 4
USC 35 35 0
LSU 37 34 -3
UGA 32 28 -4
AUB 40 36 -4
FLA 36 30 -6
OLE 47 40 -7
ALA 36 23 -13

Tenn is the least penalized team in the league, and their opponents are the most penalized.

The most damning evidence:

Tenn penalties: +21 for the season
Team in second place: +6.

Jeez, it doesn't take a rocket scientist on that one.
