Question about Talladega traffic tomorrow and Sunday?

Okay. Me and my cousin are going to the Braves games tomorrow and Sunday. Of course to get there the fastest way, you must go I-20. The only problem is that goes right through Talladega, and it is Talladega weekend unfortunately. I believe I-20 is only a 4 lane highway.

We were thinking of leaving at 7:30 central time which would put us near Talladega at maybe 9:30 or so. How bad is the traffic going to be going at around 9-10 a.m. Saturday morning? Should we leave earlier? We have to be in Atlanta at the field by 12 central (1 eastern).

I don't even want to talk about Sunday afternoon. We will probably be going through Talladega at around 4 Sunday afternoon so I don't think that is going to be fun.

I think you're fine on Saturday. You don't want to hit the area at 4pm on Sunday though. It'll be a parking lot for a few hours then. Your profile says Falkfille. If you're going to Falkville, I'd exit at Anniston and take 431 up to Huntsville. I've heard of people taking 2-3 hours to get to Bham after a race. For those of us that live in this area, you only make that mistake once and never, ever repeat it.

I was thinking that as well. I think 431 runs through the Arab area or something my dad was telling me instead of having to go all the way to Huntsville. I can cut through somewhere.

What exit number is Anniston? I usually get off at Oxford or something like that where there is a Starbuck's right by McDonald's.

Crap, I had a long reply and lost it somehow. You can scout out the exit numbers on google maps or when you drive through on Saturday.

431 goes Oxford, Anniston, Gadsden, then to Huntsville. I don't think it goes through Arab. 231 does go through Arab. Check google maps and just make it take you one of the other routes. You can grab the line showing the route and drag it over to another road for a reroute and it will update the directions.

Thank you for your help. I really don't want to be sitting in traffic for 3 hours, and my cousin has school the next day so we don't want to be late getting in.

I think I will get off at the Oxford exit like we always do, and hit 431 that way. Then somewhere down the way I can hit 278 to get home through Cullman.

I've lived 15 miles from the SpeedWay my entire life..I would stay on I-20 if I were you..The traffic may be a little bit heavy..I've never seen it real bad about the time you will pass through..The only time I avoid I-20 is right after the race..When you have a 100,000 people going home at the same time..It's a pain in the backside..

This. We are doing a job at the Army Depot and were going to do it this week, but I put if off becasue of Talladega. Couldn't get a hotel room within 45 miles. Anyway, people scatter in all week, so while you'll get some slow down before the race it's nothing compared to what's gonna happen on Sunday when 100,000+ drunks head home.

Well I've lived in Talladega my whole life and Saturday shouldnt be a problem going to Atlanta. Just watch for the Troopers because they'll be heavy.

Sunday around 4 you should be fine. Depends on what time you come through. During the race its like a ghost town unless Junior is put out early then everyone leaves early. I'd have an alternative route planned and check it on the radio before getting near town.

It might be later than 4. IDK. The Sunday game starts at 12:30 central time. If the game last 3 hours, that will be 3:30. If the Braves are getting hammered we might leave early. IDK what to do.

Anytime after 4, you better stay away. Alot of people are starting to stay longer and let traffic scatter which has helped some. But "if" the race is going on and you are coming through you wont see anything...

The game starts 30 minutes after the race so it depends. I can get to the Marta stops in less than an hour from the Oxford exit. I'd pick up 92.7 coming into Alabama near the Heflin, Oxford exits and it will pick up the race. If its over avoid I20 through there, if its going on you'd be fine even if its over between Oxford and the track.

So if I get to Heflin, and the race is already over avoid I-20. If the race is still going on or just about to be over, I should be okay?

I would still stay on I-20 actually if I had to pass through..Cause Highway 78 or any of roads other than 1-20 is actually harder to get through when the race is over..It's a straight shot on I-20 & there will be lots of state patrol out making sure the traffic keeps moving at a steady pace..

If I were you, Jessica, I'd worry less about the amount of traffic than the drunken fools in the traffic. Some people can't help but get drunk while watching the races, and then get out on the interstate and play race car driver themselves.

Yeah. I thought about that as well. I pray that we and everyone on the roads in that area stay safe.

There's drunks nearly everywhere we go..With the sheer amount of the Law Enforcement presence around the Track & I-20..I really don't worry about drunk drivers at the SpeedWay..Now if you tour the campgrounds..Thats a different story..
