Questions about Milroe.

Film schmilm...

JM overthrows/underthrows/misses altogether wide open guys on screens, on check downs, on crossing routes, on deep balls. This isn't film! This is lack of accuracy issue. Football is a complex game but this isn't a complex issue. He has proven he lacks the ability to put together consistent and winning football. As the QB of a team that is based on QB play, it is up to the coach to give someone else an opportunity. This isn't HS where the drop off from QB1 to QB2 should be superstar to waterboy. These guys all were successful and highly touted guys. Put someone in there that can give us a chance to get the ball to our 5 star playmakers. JM has 57 rushing yards in the last three games. Spare me the "he gives us the best chance to win because of his legs" garbage.
All of this

You don't have to have a definite answer to that question to make a change. That decision can be made by what you DO KNOW and what we DO KNOW is Milroe has been atrocious for three consecutive games, throwing picks in FOUR straight games. Sometimes just making the change gives the rest of the team a spark and it can reset the guy you're benching. Because, obviously right now he's not seeing the field well enough to benefit the team.
Not only that, it sends a message to the team that no one is above the team. That everyone is going to be held to a standard and that your playing time will be appropriately allotted based on your production. Right now we have quite a few players who seem to think they will be rolling out with the starting 22 regardless of how bad they play on Saturday.

That’s all I’m really trying to say. I’m not anti-Ty but this isn’t exactly a Jalen/Tua situation, Tua played in the 2nd half of most games in 2017 so by the time he played, he was game ready. Throwing Ty to the wolves in the middle of the season when he’s barely played doesn’t do him any favors I don’t think.

Also, this team has a lot of issues outside of the QB position that I don’t think Ty can cover up for. I just saw Beck play god awful against Texas and they still won by 15. We don’t have the team to get away with that.

That's why I think you give him a shot vs Mizzou at BDS.

If he plays well and we win that could give him not only valuable experience but confidence before playing him vs LSU in BR

I don't think he's a one roster decision fix all elixir either because we do have more issues than just QB.

But we could maybe at least eliminate a lot of our offensive woes and give ourselves a chance at finishing better.

We need a PG out there who dishes assists to our skill players and that could make us more difficult to scheme and defend for.

I think we need to play Simpson just to see how the team responds with him in there, milroe fatigue could be a thing , milroe is showing us who he is, there really isn't any improvement and his ceiling is kinda low, we've got nothing to lose playing Simpson.

I simply refuse to believe that is the case. We have seen Ty throw, and we know he is more accurate. We have seen him avoid pressure in the pocket, and as crazy as this sounds, it seems he might actually be more mobile.
He might be but until we see him in quality action we don’t know. I don’t think he will get a chance unless Milroe goes down with a major injury whether I like it or not. I’d like to see him play this week but I’m not holding my breath.

I think Ty is the better option in the short term and the long term but you don't just throw him to the wolves in Baton Rouge with no previous start... or at least no serious time vs a competent opponent with the game in question.

In the last 2 seasons he's had no real experience other than saving our butts vs USF last year... and no matter what people think HE DID come off the bench and guide us to that win under sub optimal conditions.

He needs to either get the start vs Mizzou or get 50/50 split reps or play the entire 2nd half or something before you start him vs LSU.

We might still lose to LSU but I'm of the opinion we'd win out after that with Ty to at worst finish 9-3 go to a respectiable bowl game and get off to a much better start for 2025.

But Ty is really talented and from what people have said who saw some of spring and fall practice he's look absolutely spectacular running CKD's offense.

So... He might could beat LSU and get us to 10-2 and the playoffs.

I know that none of us will ever know though if the kid never gets one single fair shot at the job.
I agree with this, but I wonder - if he does indeed look absolutely spectacular running CKD's offense - why has he not been given a chance to show what he can do in a game?

Let’s just put this perspective:

1. You have a OL that is capable of giving you time. We saw that at times against a Tennessee defense that statically is good, thus many WR/TE were completely wide open, and JM himself could have tucked the ball and ran for a 1st down easily.

2. You have JH and JM at the RB position who have been robbed of opportunities simply because defenses do not respect Alabama up front because they know the QB can’t read defenses well. So it’s easy to stack the box on early downs and dare JM to throw.

3. I kept saying all game, “I know someobdy other than Williams is open!” And while that may be true, most of the time he was open but if one receiver is getting 20+ targets, either all of the other WR/TEs are just okay to below average or RW is such a good player that he can mask the real issues going on with the QB play. Think about it, you have K-Law back there and it seems like he’s only good for a jet sweep. I refuse to believe he’s not as good as advertised.

4. The defense (and I’ll keep saying this) DID NOT LOSE THIS GAME! Sure, they could have stepped up and made a stop here and there but the losses in that secondary were very significant and you’re asking Freshman to do things they have not had time to be developed to do. If I get you 3 turnovers as a defense in one half of football, you would think my offense could manufacture points 2/3 times at least.

This game could have easily been 28-0 at half and at the worst, you get a 2nd half Georgia situation where they cut the lead to 28-24. We scored another TD which pushes it to 35-24 and we hold on to win. This defense is not 2015, 2016, 2009, etc., they will have games where they will struggle. But if the offense can’t take advantage of opportunites….what do you expect?

If you want to have a shot at sniffing the playoffs, what else do you have to lose by not putting Ty in?

I hate
Georgia was enough games in we started to show some tendacies on offense. Milroe not good enough or can't figure how to over come what the d is doing to him
I hate it, but I think you may right. I know coach has said they will tailor the offense to the qb’s strengths, but I think an inability to ad just may be too much for coaching to overcome. You have to be able to take what the D gives you.

Again, I don’t see Milroe being successful without running. He doesn’t seem to want to do that or know when to do that. Seemed like against South Carolina he was running out of bounds instead of trying to pickup extra yardage . So, could be injury or just another examp
I now have the strong belief that CKD walked into a much worse deal than anyone is willing to admit. The "cultural" issues have only worsened since 2021 and CNS himself couldn't stop it and left. And I think we have significant talent issues on the D and the OL. Not terrible Auburn level talent, but not NFL all-world guys like many have believed.

My only big beef (and I think Sayin made his own decision and we would have kept him if he was interested) was that in terms of QB needs next year, I'd prefer to have Sayin over Mack... I've always fervently hoped Milroe would finally turn the corner, but it hasn't happend after 4.5 years of practices, private QB training, lots of playing time before last year, and 1.5 years as a starter. We need a new direction next year, and it appears we may be betting on getting a ready to go QB from the portal frankly. We don't seem to have confidence in the three younger guys as of now. And it is the same with Ty, he has practiced a good bit, has a few snaps, but seems to be coming along quite slowly.
wow. . I agree with your Milroe assessment. Just doesn’t seem like he’s going to catch on. I think he cost himself a lot of NFL money with his Saturday performance.

Do we really know how much Ty has progressed? Hasn’t seen much action this year. Reports were that he played really well in the post season scrimmages. I assume he is hanging around because he’s confident he will be the man next year.

Something that isn't talked about much but Milroe's demeanor is that of an empath and comes off lackadaisical much of the time. He is literally the anti-thesis of a Tom Brady'like QB. For some guys that may work but for him it seems to be more of a brush it off mentality. This in turn leads to him making the same mistake over and over. Because of this, he also doesn't hold the people around him to a higher standard because they know he isn't going to say anything to them. Dan Lanning talked about this week that his best teams are "player led". You can't be player led if the QB is sitting quietly on the sideline in his feelings after he just threw another interception.
