Quick question (Redshirts from last two classes)

Can anyone provide me a quick summary of how many players we've redshirted under Saban, broken down by year?

I've always been a firm believer in redshirting as a means to building a strong program foundation and was in a discussion with a gator fan about who redshirts more (Saban vs Meyer). I can try and look it all up if no one has a way to access it quickly, but figured I'd ask first.

Thanks

For the class of 2009, by my count we redshirted 17-20 depending on if you count the greyshirts.

I'm going to count BJ Scott as a redshirt for the '08 clas, even though he redshirted this past season. For the '08 class, we redshirted only 9 or so. A few of teh guys like Preyear and Matchett I not counting since they are technically not going to play for us. The '08 class has been very productive and was the immediate infusion of talent we needed after coming off probation a few years earlier, so I'm not surprised few actually redshirted. UF had/ has the luxury of being able to redshirt a ton of players because they weren't on probation like we were, so they didn't need the immediate depth we did.

Going forward, I'd expect our classes to resemble the '09 class in that most of our signees will redshirt b/c we are building the depth that UF has. Only the elite players (Trent/ Nico) or immediate need positions (Carpenter) will see the field. I'd expect the same thing going forward. A few signees will immediately contribute on ST too (Woodson/ Dre), but most will redshirt moving forward.

just to expound, my guesses for impact redshirts

RB Eddie Lacy
WR Kevin Norwood
OL DJ Fluker (may not start but will have a roll)
LB Ed Stinson
LB Tana Patrick
DB Burton Scott
DL Darrington Sentimore

There will probably be more but these are my best guesses.

I debated on Kendell Kelly, he's a big physical guy, I don't think we saw him at his best because he was hurt his senior year and it really set him back. After a year in the program he might be a surprise player, and with his size I would not be surprised to see him move to safety.

Nick Saban has clearly wanted to get faster at the wideout spot. so any of the young players who can burn rubber could get a shot.

From JPS1983: "A few of teh guys like Preyear and Matchett I not counting since they are technically not going to play for us. "

I may have missed something but can anyone explain this.

Preyear left the team and I am pretty sure Matchett had a big injury that put him out of football (I may be wrong on Matchett), so even though they did redshirt, I didn't count them because they won't be playing for us.

The highlighted guys are no longer on the team. So while they redshirted, we can't really rely on them for our team depth. ;)

I may be wrong but I though I saw Bowman in on a couple plays, early in the year.

You did see Bowman he caught a pass. Don't remember which game. I make it a point every play to look for freshman. He did play. Think the pass was 6 or 7 yards.

Yeah, he did. Completely forgot about it though...

I was going by the original question: "Can anyone provide me a quick summary of how many players we've redshirted under Saban, broken down by year?"

seems like kind of a waste for Bowman..except for he can say he played on the National Championship team (hopefully he can say that again anyway)

but any chance he comes up with an injury? and gets a medical redshirt?

Looking forward to seeing him on the field.
