CHARLESTON, SC –
Tyler Ras put together another solid start, helping Alabama baseball blank the College of Charleston, 8-0, on Friday evening at The Ballpark at Patriots Point. The win moved UA to 9-1 on the young season and 3-0 in series openers during the 2021 campaign.

Ras (2-0) got the Friday night start for a second straight week. The junior capitalized on the opportunity once again, totaling a career-high six strikeouts and allowing only three hits with no walks across 6.0 innings. He was followed by Jacob McNairy, who contributed 2.0 frames, and then Grayson Hitt with 1.0 inning of scoreless baseball to complete the shutout. It was Alabama's second shutout effort this season.

The Crimson Tide offense received contributions from its entire lineup on Friday. All nine starters reached base safely on the night with eight of the nine starters recording one run apiece. Peyton Wilson and Caden Rose each homered and posted two RBI each with William Hamiter also contributing two RBI. Hamiter was Alabama's leader in hits with a 3-for-4 effort and one run scored to go with his two RBI.

From Head Coach Brad Bohannon
"Tonight was the first time that we focused and competed at a high level for an entire nine innings. It was a really complete game for us; we were outstanding in all three facets of the game – pitching, defense and offense. I'm excited to see if we have the collective maturity to string a few efforts like this together starting tomorrow."

How It Happened
  • T3 | Peyton Wilson sent a solo home run over the wall in left to push UA out front early. The Tide then proceeded to load the bases with three walks before a two-out single from William Hamiter brought in two more. (3-0, Alabama)
  • T6 | Zane Denton doubled with one down before a Hamiter grounder resulted in a fielding error, putting the pair on the corners. Jackson Tate followed with a sacrifice bunt to bring in Denton from third and widen the gap. (4-0, Alabama)
  • T7 | Caden Rose led the inning off with his first career home run. (5-0, Alabama)
  • T8 | The Tide posted three runs on three hits and an error in the eighth to add to the lead. Hamiter singled to start the inning and was followed by a single from Tate. With two on, Jim Jarvis laid down a bunt single and an errant throw from Charleston allowed the runners to move up 90 feet, scoring one. A 4-3 groundout by Rose scored one more with Wilson sending a sac fly to right in the next at-bat for the inning's final run. (8-0 Alabama)
Postgame Notes
  • Alabama pitchers recorded their second shutout the season. The Tide also blanked Wright State in game two of last Saturday's doubleheader. That game lasted 7.0 innings.
  • Tyler Ras matched his career-long outing with 6.0 frames in tonight's game. That 6.0 innings ties the junior's effort last weekend against Wright State on Feb. 26.
  • Ras recorded a career-high six strikeouts in the game. His previous high for Ks was five which he had on three occasions, most recently in last weekend's start against the Raiders.
  • The Crimson Tide posted double-digit hits for the third time this season, all three of which have come in the last five games.
  • All nine of Alabama's starters reached base safely at least once on the night.
  • Alabama has recorded two-or-more home runs in seven of 10 games this season, including four two-homer games after this evening's series opener.
  • Peyton Wilson homered in back-to-back games with tonight's home run after his leadoff shot against Troy on Wednesday. Wilson becomes the third Tide player to homer in back-to-back games this season, joining Zane Denton and Owen Diodati who each homered from Feb. 20-21 against McNeese.
  • Praytor finished 1-for-4 on the night to extend his hitting streak to seven games. Across that time, the Tide catcher is batting .250 (7-28) with three doubles, two home runs, seven RBI, four runs and four walks.
  • Jarvis extended his hitting streak to six games thanks to his 1-for-4 effort in tonight's game. The sophomore is batting .316 (6-19) with a double, two RBI, three runs, a walk and two hit-by-pitch across the current streak.
Alabama will go for the series win over the College of Charleston on Saturday afternoon. The Crimson Tide will look to junior righty Dylan Smith in the start while the Cougars counter with freshman righty Ty Good. Saturday's matchup is scheduled for a 1 p.m. CT first pitch at The Ballpark at Patriots Point with the game streaming through FloSports.
