Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia, former Trump loyalist, says she is resigning from Congress

I've seen that she's finally vested in the House retirement plan after 5 years (and 3 days...), and she's made $25 million from insider trading. So there's that. She's the gift that will keep on taking.

A friend of mine when I mentioned it says she is a lot smarter than we gave her credit for. She was an obnoxious pit bull for Trump, and then she turned on Trump and got invited onto The View and everyone on the left is singing her praises. And she walks away with a House pension, the sweet congressional medical coverage, and her "earnings" from the insider trading in the stock market.
Not a bad strategy.

i'm seeing a lot of folks on "the left" rolling their eyes at her and thinking she's full of crap

i think she's angling to make inroads into the brahvda wing, but i don't think it's going to work for her

That's a fair point.
I was painting with too broad a brush.
The ladies on The View praise her.
Jimmy Kimmel, I think, has praised her.
Democratic leader in the House from Maryland has praised her and invited her into the Big Tent of the Democratic party.
But by no means are all people on the left buying it.

Sad that someone can play both sides, grift millions along the way, and not be condemned for it.

There’s a story here. I don’t know the plot yet, but it’s not about a piddling pension and healthcare. The money there is nowhere in the universe of big enough.

MTG isn’t exactly known for subtlety, so the truth will come out soon enough. Guessing it’ll be an internet-based scam / Ponzi scheme of some sort.

She'll get much much richer with a daytime talk show or something on the internet.

I've also heard that she is much more intelligent than she comes across and that this is basically a big money making grift for her. Kudos for pulling it off, but not so much for the damage she caused along the way.

i think her sudden calmness and reasonableness is a ruse. jmho, of course.
I tend to agree. If her current rhetoric was genuine, if she really cares for the people she represents and the issues they face, then quitting and leaving town does not seem like the best course of action. Stick around, fight for what you believe in, right?

If there are truly some GOP members who are tired of Trump and his stupid policies, then we need them to be a roadblock. The only way resigning helps is 6 more resign and it flips the house, but that ain't happening.

I think looking at the experience of other members, staying in Congress and engaging in relentless insider trading is the bigger money-maker.
It seems to me that leaving open this public scandal of legalized insider trading attracts exactly the wrong kind of person to the hallowed halls of Congress. The kind of person who would seek that is exactly who you do not want in Congress.

Sure, but even the "good ones" who run for office for all the right reasons eventually succumb to the wiles and temptations that such opportunities provide. I can think of only 3 people in Congress who might be able to truthfully say they haven't compromised: Rand Paul, Thomas Massie and John Fetterman. And I'm only conceding on "might"; I'm not comfortable enough to say for sure.

Paul Wellstone (D, MN) used to be another, but he died in a plane crash.

the fact that it is being carefully choreographed, documented, and promoted makes me think it's just another plot line in this brown acid trip of a reality show that we are currently being forced to exist in

Here's a brutal truth from my med school days: every single person you know 70 or older has SOME form of dementia, even if it's small. Every one. Without exception. And Reagan turned 70 about two weeks into his first term. Throw in the shooting, his consistently aging, and his later Alzheimer's diagnosis and it's not unreasonable to believe "I forgot" when he was asked about the Iranian arms sales, it really isn't.

Then again.....Reagan had a bad memory when he was under investigation by MCA back in the 1960s, too.
How much do you think I've slipped at 86? :)
