Ok, what is your point? God chose Saul. The electoral college chose Trump. Do you believe God is using Trump like he used Paul?
Basically, he has no facts or evidence to stand on, so he's trying to suborn the example of Paul, presumably because he realizes that "God works in mysterious ways" is a non-starter.

point away. i thought the point of the thread was for conservatives to have a safe space to share their ideas without them being smashed like hillary's blackberry.
This is why idiot leaders will keep getting re-elected. No one is really interested in listening to someone else's opinion. Without being snarky or just absolutely ignorant and trying to shut people down,
To be sure, repubs/conservatives do it to and when they do the libs want to act so indignant. And the world continues to spin out of control and spiral downward.

this is becoming eerily reminiscent of that awesome civility thread
Which I believe was quite effectively shut by a few liberal shrills, too. You in particular, always claim to want facts but it's really "your facts" that you want presented because they fit your narrative. When someone else disagrees you and you minions start shutting people down with name calling and such. All the while complaining that consevatives/repubs never listen.

the thread seemed so promising starting out. i guess it did do some service though in confirming for some folks just how ridiculous the gop has become.

I agree that most want to just to stay in an echo chamber and just hear ideas that they agree with and not let anyone challenge their opinion in a civil discourse. I think its a product of being to attached to social media, and less interest of physically putting yourself in a different culture to see things in a new light. Had I not pushed myself to travel away from Alabama and Nebraska, and take real vacations then I probably would've been a narrow minded individual. But seeing different points of views it has my political and personal feelings more complex. Most people with extreme opinions that Ive known can count the number of states on one hand that they have been to in their lives, and usually non of them are outside the deep south.

But as far as this thread, the OP was asking for the response that they got by lumping Republicans and conservatives into one classification when they are two totally different things, and making a jab at the liberals on here. Most people berating Trumpers on here are not liberals, and most of them are in fact conservatives that don't want to be associated with Trumpers. Had the OP actually made a Trumper safespace or a Republican safespace, then most of the folks on here would not even respond and let them have their thread.

I have followed politics since the Kennedy presidency. During those years I have voted in every presidential election, sometimes for the Republican and sometimes for the Democrat. I have never had any party loyalty. I would consider myself a fiscal conservative and a social liberal. I have always tried to support the candidate that I thought was honest, patriotic, one who was empathetic, and swore to defend the Constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic. Does that make me a liberal or a conservative? A Republican or Democrat?

As for religion, if Trump is truly God's chosen one then anybody who has ever called themselves a Christian and ever attended church have been the biggest suckers in the history of the universe.

I think it is past the tipping point. Folks on the fringes of both sides have the loudest voices, and there is no room for compromise, and common decency seems to have exited stage left. Here is an excerpt from an article in the Minneapolis Star Tribune about the recent protests...

As the event ended, Trump supporters made their way through the phalanx of protesters in small groups.

“Nazi scum! Off our streets!” the protesters shouted.

A Hispanic couple wearing Trump gear, along with what appeared to be their teenage daughter, made their way down First Avenue while protesters yelled.

“He hates you,” the protester said to the family, referring to Trump. The woman retorted: “Mexicanos por Trump!”

My good friend is a straight-ticket, blue dog democrat. There are many issues we disagree on, some we agree on, but we are both 100% on the same page with our disdain for these antifa folks. Just as we are with the Proud Boys and other such groups. This is why I try not to lump all Democrats into the socialist/ antifa group, nor all Trump supporters as racist bigots.

Unfortunately, there are too many who have, for whatever reason, decided to boil it down to a for us / against us position with no middle ground. Just like the article I posted above. There could literally be any number of reasons why that Hispanic family supports PDJT. But that didnt matter to that antifa protestor. No attempt to find out why, no attempt to find common ground, just hate filled rhetoric.

Do you have alternative facts? I mean, facts are objective. They don't take sides. It's not like each side has a different set of facts to work with, so what is meant by this when you say it? I know when those in power have said it then lies have followed after or come before or both and the lies are called by them "alternative facts" just like the truth is called "fake news".

Anyone trying to defend Trump at this point seem to be mostly out of the lot of folks wanting us to go back to the 1950's socially, misinformed folks, stubborn people, people that would vote for the Taliban over a Democrat, or people who just want to see the world burn. I really cant see one sane reason a patriot would support what that man is and has been doing while in office.

Maybe Im missing something, but I really cant see anything but someone trying to tear down a country out of his own amusement and for his own personal gain.

One can listen to your opinions and not be swayed by them.

Particularly when said opinions involve Trump being anointed by God.
I don't recall saying anything about anybody being swayed. That didn't come into my conversation about this. There are a lot of people that I have disagreed with politically and have actually had quite good discussions about it because neither one was trying to "sway" the other. That's a big area of where people entrenched on both sides get things so wrong. They are too busy trying to sway somebody and digging their heels in harder when someone won't come over to their point of view or side.
Much like the liberal crowd (and yes, some conservatives/repubs,too) on here who try to hijack a thread because they just can't stand it that the other guys may have some valid points.

I have the feeling that, to you, that means anyone who opposes Trump. In fact, that seems to be true with millions of people who oppose him. For the record, I am a fiscal conservative, small government advocate who bitterly opposes Trump and have for over 20 years...
