It took historical incompetence from referees one year and beyond atrocious quarterback play one year for Tennessee to even have the two wins they have in the last decade and a half plus.

If one year in the playoffs puts Tennessee’s program significantly ahead of Alabama’s, how is the distance between programs that Alabama established over the last decade eclipsed so quickly? National Championships, SEC championships, individual award winners, NFL draft picks, assistants elevated to head coaches, victories on the field… No aspect of Tennessee’s program has even come close to Alabama in those metrics in the last 16 years.

I honestly don’t understand this logic… Was Alabama significantly behind Auburn in 2013 because Auburn went to the national championship and Alabama didn’t?

I will say Bobby Hill has done a good job rejuvenating Tennessee but to act like they are head and shoulders of Alabama just because of the last 4 years is a bit much. The two games they won a lot had to go very right for them to pull it off and they still are without any meaningful hardware to show. Meanwhile Alabama has 2 SEC titles and 3 playoff games whereas Tennessee is on the road playing their first.

This is like all the “Dabo is the new king”, “Gus is the new king”, and “Freeze is the new king” nonsense that everyone has forgotten about saying like the holy gospel a few years back. It takes more than a few years to really pass someone.

Has Tennessee gotten closer to Alabama? Yes

Have they equaled us? In some ways but not as much as they think

Deboer has 2 recruiting classes that way ahead of UT. Bama is 3-2 over last five years. Our facilities are better. Our NIL situation is better.and we have won 3 sec titles in that 5 year times span versus UTs big goose egge (they can’t even get there when they beat us)

This is a tab bit extreme. Unless Tennessee wins 2 of the next 3 NCs and we somehow revert to being on the level of Arkansas, I don’t EVER see us becoming less of a program than Tennessee.

Let us not forget the devious efforts that snake Fulmer put in play so they could even be relevant in the 90’s/early 2000’s. Even with that, they could NEVER be a better program than Alabama.
