Blaine Gabbert is listed in the Rivals 100 to Watch in 2008, which basically amounts to a preseason Rivals 100. He currently list Alabama as being in the top 4 for his signature. He looks great on film, and I just saw an interview with him and here are a couple of quotes from him:

"I have an extremely strong arm, very accurate, I'm also extremely fast."

"I can basically throw the ball wherever I want."

He then goes on to compare himself to John Elway and Steve Young.

He doesn't sound cocky at all does he!?! Haha

He is listed at 6'5" 230 lbs and claims he can run a 4.5 40. If this kid is for real then wow, he's already got Peyton Manning's size as a Jr. in high school!

That's still pretty darn fast for a guy that is 6'5 230.
oh, definitely! I wasn't saying he wasn't fast, just not 4.5 fast. This guy is almost the size as Jamarcus Russell and he ran a 4.9 at the combine! Anyone remember how mobile he was? 4.65 for a kid Gabbert's size is incredible!

I'm sure it did come straight from his mouth, that's standard practice. My senior year of high school, a few years ago, I ran a 4.78, but if anyone were to ask me what I ran, it was definitely a 4.6!

Wish I went to Tuscaloosa for college
I'll have to check out this Gabbert kid this fall since his high school is only 30 minutes away from me back here in St. Louis. I believe the other 4 schools that he's really interested in are: Missouri, Nebraska, Clemson and Iowa. I was just reading the Mizzou football message boards and they are saying that Gabbert is leaning towards Bama because of Saban and Applewhite and for the fact he loves the tradition over there! I heard he is going to announce his decision where he is going before high school football season this upcoming fall. The downside I think is that when he comes here, he'll have to deal with Fanuzzi and McElroy for playing time unless he decides to redshirt his freshman year.

I don't think he'll have to deal with Fanuzzi. Not saying he's not good, but he looks a lot more like a project than a possibility at this point.

I also understand that one of the major things Gabbert is looking for is a place with great facilities. The facilities at Nebraska really impressed him and that was their major selling point. If they impressed him, I can't wait to see what he says after he's seen Bama's!

My "football speed" was always faster than my 40.

TiderUNA you need to reasearch Nick Fanuzzi a little bit more. Kid started as a runinng back and the only player to play varsity as a freshman. Throws the ball very well and with time will not be a "project".
I have done my research on him. To me he does look like a project. He looks exactly as you described him. A RB who can throw the football. He doesn't look like a QB to me. I'm not saying he can't be a great player somewhere down the road. But for now he looks like he really needs to work on his footwork and check his read progression a little bit more. And whenever you have rough spots that need to be worked on, to me, that is the definition of a "project" Someone like McElroy looked 100x more polished coming out of high school, as does Gabbert entering his Sr. year.

BTW, you also contradicted yourself. "With time he will not be a project" aren't you essentially admitting right there that at the current time he is a project?

QB out of the St. Louis area?

I just moved up to the St. Louis area (O'Fallon) from Tuscaloosa because of a transfer from job. I still keep up everyday with what is happen with the Tide. AND even kept my season tickets.

My question is that has anyone heard CNS recruiting a QB up in this area? I saw a piece on the local channel of a QB who is 6'5 and weights about 225 and can run like the wind. They said he was being recruited by Alabama, Nebraska, and a couple more. Anyone know of this kid?
