Rod Woodson to transfer?

I feel bad that Rod Woodson will no longer be with the program. From all accounts, it appears he did not meet Coach Saban's expectations so there had to be a parting of the ways. I wish him all the best in his future endeavors. Chattanooga could always use a good safety. He could play straight away.

The Tide was fine before Rod Woodson and will be fine after he leaves.

Re: Coach Saban Presser

Looks like Blake Sims would be #105 on the roster. I'm thinking they aren't optimistic on Belue at this point.

Wow...this is a complete surprise. Sure..I trust Coach Saban. But anyone who's followed anything that I've posted since he's been on campus, I really loved the way this guy played the game. A complete head hunter. I loved it.

But watching the Spring Game, I noticed some things about his coverage ability (or lack thereof) and Earle confirmed that the coaches had the same concerns about him and another player that I won't single out in this space. But if you go back and watch the spring game, you'll see that Rod got beat on a lot of plays. Particularly, he had trouble in man coverage. And after what happened against Utah a couple of years ago, we clearly want DBs that can handle themselves there since most every team we play will try to mimick Utah's strategy as that's the last game we lost.

Again, I'm pretty surprised and disappointed about Rod's departure. I wish him well.

In the press conference Saban implied that they would know something about Sims by the end of the day. It seemed pretty obvious that Saban was expecting Blake Sims to qualify and then Belue will defer his enrollment even if he eventually qualifies. He did mention that both players are aware that greyshirting is a possibility.

I really don't see why people are upset with this. If Saban is publicly saying that it was an issue of accountability and that losing him isn't a problem I am not going to view it as one. We all know the effects that bad eggs can have on teams. I have full faith that Saban will have the defense ready with or without Woodson. I read an article that said Saban's LSU NC team had two freshman in the secondary. If anyone can piece together a secondary it is going to be Coach Saban.

I remember when the news about Patrick Peterson leaving Ole Miss came out someone mentioned the high percentage of MS players who end up fizzling out. This just adds another one to the list. It really does seem to be a trend with players from MS.
I'm not upset. I was meaning for Nick Perry's benefit he should have enrolled early. Think of the experience just one spring would give a player. That's why so many do it. Especially with this news, instead of only going through summer and fall Nick would have gone through spring as well.

Are you saying that he had a chance to enroll early and just chose not to(not disputing you just never heard that)? I can understand that cause some people want to finish out there senior year, but it certainly would have helped his chances at Alabama. The thing I have heard about Perry is that he is very intelligent player so for our sake I hope he and all of the other young DB's pick up the defense quickly.

I hate that he's leaving. I liked him on special teams. He was a big hitter but did need some work in the coverage area. Oh well, good luck to him. What's up with these kids from Mississippi? Like was mentioned earlier, it seems like a high number of guys from Mississippi have some issues at colleges all over the place.

It doesn't really benefit anything to dig into the situation too deeply, but I'll say this. When a player leaves with this kind of announcement, unless it's the rare Elder-type of case, it's the culmination of a long series of events. Also, whoever posted above that Woodson was probably only going to play ST was correct. Saban's defense is hard to learn and it takes dedication and good study habits.

You are correct. Bush, Holt, Lowery,Maddox and Pennington are walk-ons. In all likelyhood none of them will ever see the field. So we are very thin, not only in experience, but in number of bodies.

Did it ever occur to you that all they needed was a good Teacher? Maybe they didn't have one in high school. :BigA::BigA::BigA:

Team Chemistry is second to none.

I still remember reading about one of our DB's crying in the back of a squad car and hope those days continue to stay in the past. Continue to feed and gut as you please coach.

Thanks...this says a lot without saying anything. I hope the young man learns from this and gets his life together. I have seen so many talented athletes who did not have the other aspects that go to make one successful. The college graveyards are full of them. CNS may have been the only person in his life to ever tell him the truth and open his eyes. OTOH, he could be like the last "great prospect" from Mississippi who left last summer and has now left USM. This is getting to be an ugly trend...

One of my favorite guys... Come on man. I would kill my self if I had to face somebody and they said, "for those of you who don't know, he ....ed away a football scholarship to Alabama."

All I can do is trust Saban has control. I know he does, but man... This is tough.
